I was fortunate enough to be invited to a meeting Tuesday evening where a number of prominent business and commercial property owners in town discussed what could be done about the outrageous SID bills they are being forced to pay. One promising suggestion was to appeal their property tax bills en masse. The deadline for filing a tax appeal is April 1 so anyone interested in doing so has to act pretty quickly. Properties in Belmar are assessed at 62% of market value so if you divide your assessed value by .62 you will get what they believe is the market value. Tax appeal info is available here or by calling 732-431-7404. It was also strongly urged that everybody join the Belmar Chamber of Commerce.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 27 at 6:00 PM. I will report the location when it is decided on.
I will be creating a separate page of this blog on the efforts to relieve our business community of the burdens placed on it by the SID. Look for that to be rolled out sometime this weekend.
