This whole situation is sad. Politicians firing seasoned veterans, then lying about having 125 applicants back in March. Memorial Day has passed and things appear to be chaotic. Doherty is gone. This lies on the heads of the police chief, councilman Magovern and administrator Connolly. I hope no one gets hurt or drowns.
For Doherty and Colleen Connolly to mislead the public like that is a crime. Yes, Doherty is gone. How about getting rid of Connolly next.
May i ask, what was wrong with the applications that the veteran lifeguards/management completed???? Was it because they didn’t kiss up to you Colleen??? Been there all these years, they were the best team that belmar has had and you decide to get rid of them, why???? You wouldn’t be scrambling and advertising after the season has begun had you just hired them back. Makes no sense at all unless you come out and explain it once and for all. Belmar beach will be a sh*t show this summer without them,just watch! Cant wait to see you on the news explaining why all the stands are down now, LOL!
Hey guys, they got nobody & nobody is what they’ll get…….I guarantee they will show up and will want to work in Belmar as per Matt. This is what he said at a council meeting.

Wonder when @MattDoherty will be on the News from AC talking about his concern over downed stands? As a resident father he should be very concerned. His twitter account still says he’s Mayor of Belmar. Who manages his account Spark Marketing Solutions?
try raising the pay. better pay has an extensive history of solving many issues. I do not know what the Class I & II get paid, but that could be an avenue to explore for a pay increase. That $10 & change (if I understood) to start is just plain insulting.
Pay top rate to get the best guards. Beach safety is a crucial issue.
#9 …. most sign companies get permits from towns and include the cost in the quote to the buyer …. time is money and applications are done thru mail- pick-up w/check$ …. a code variance would be different.

#1… I am not a fan of the over development at the Belmar marina, but there are many empty slips in the Shark River…. Boating has become very expensive, causing low partisapation these days… Its very sad to see….

There’s no parking at the Marina = No parking = Empty slips = Fishing gear too heavy to carry from the train.
Talk about parking. Our train station is located at 10th ave. Some crooked politician had the great idea of giving our commuter parking lot to the greedy Depepe developer in exchange for another boro owned piece of property at the water works yard at 13th ave!! Who wants to walk 3 blocks in heels in rain, snow etc., in the dark to catch a train? This also reduces parking for marina use.
I assume Depepe is paying to pave the new lot, yippee! Who paid to demolish the building on that site? Tax payers? I’m sure it cost more to demolish building than to pave the lot.
This whole deal was contrived by Doherty, Connolly, Magovern and the rest of the lame council. The residents and commuters have been taken advantage of again by someone who’s pockets were lined. Belmar is a scam.
Commuter, can you explain how the property taxes work with the tenth avenue building site?

I think Commuters issue was moving the commuter lot 3 blocks away to accommodate over development when parking spaces are so sparse.
Pleaseeeeee: the municipal property of which you speak will be nothing less than a BA parking lot for Beat the Clock reveille.

Belmar should just make the beaches free since they obviously aren’t paying anyone with all the stands down. It should just be swim at your own risk beach, but then again it currently is with no lifeguards and poor management. Great job!
before the monstrosity Marina Grill the public could see the Belmar Marina from the roadway and it didn’t need an electronic sign.

Similar signs being affixed to back of Guard stands. Wasn’t close enough at 7am this morning to read which bar might be advertised on them.
Its nice that they can afford all these pretty new signs. Too bad the town didn’t allocate that money towards salaries to attract more guards. Signs wont save you when your drowning.
I witnessed 2 rescues on 12th ave beach around 5 pm on Friday of swimmers caught in the rough surf. Wife of husband finally rescued said she was calling for about 15 minuets before the life guards came in their Jeep from however far away they were. They did a great job but the length of time to respond could have been deadly! Every other beach needs lifeguards! It’s a lawsuit and tragedy waiting to happen!
