This is why it costs 2 million dollars per mile to construct roads in NJ vs 39 thousand in other states (less dense, but really!).

Put people back to work. Don’t fall for the school schemes to teach one to dig a ditch and have 6 guys standing, smoking and spitting watching the hole

Eisenhower reconfigued and re-built our transportation system because of the war recognition that landing strips (highways) were needed to protect our country. Jim Howard was intrumental as well. Where are those type of giants today? You all know who will get the job done putting people back to work.

Who’s going to be in charge of the Department of Transportation in 2017? Warren Buffet or Jimmy Buffet? Route 35 bridge connecting Neptune to Belmar took how long? Avon to Belmar Rt 71 bridge still being worked on too.

#3 – Sir, a CCC would be a great idea but can never happen nowadays. Just look at our young men. They’re talking to you (you have to know body language). They would never in a zillion years put their hand to manual labor. I do recognize that’s a blanket statement but I stand by it even though I understand there would be a very few exceptions. Also, it’s not a condemnation in any way. It’s just a statement of facts.

#6..Men/Women in other states work on construction a lot. One difference is the Unions. The NJ unions are abusive. They want more and more at a time when we can afford less and less. I was a union man but now I’m just a shell of what I used to be. Takes me 15 minutes just to drink a cup of coffee and take a few aspirins.

Old man, Unions did not make this county they just collected dues so the big wigs could buy million dollar homes and smoke Cuban cigars. The hard workers are the ones that built this county!

#7 – I’m a union man from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. But what we see today represented as unionism is not what I was introduced into all those years ago (that doesn’t exist anymore). I knew it was all over when my local tried telling us NAFTA, what was bad for us, was good for us and the men went for it. On top of that, most people think in terms of civil service when they think of unions. Civil servants are not union people and should never have been allowed to organize. That is one of the main reasons our poor state is in the shape it’s in. That and the thousands/millions of people who depend on handouts for their daily existence. I’m talking about those who have never worked, don’t work and never will work because they’ve been raised to just be on the dole their entire lives.

Those “jobs” used to be called “make jobs” to satisfy political favors for someone or their kid. You were stuck with one bozo and everyone else pulled up the slack on the job.

Even the sopranos got the work done on time. The Izod in the Meadowlands was nothing more than a benefit that you paid out of your own 1/2 empty pockets. REVEL is another examplec of tied me over, put the boys to work, while the sub prime loan recession was on with all the NAFTA products flooding the nation.

#9 When my grandfather worked for the union they got better pay and working conditions. He came from a foreign land and was damn happy to get a job making enough money to support his 7 kids. Now the unions have become abusive and greedy. The unions did bring many people into prosperity. Now it is different. What a day. Thank God I’m still breathing
