Statement A “No Brainer”

Doherty tells Coast Star if we didn’t police Lake Como maybe nobody would?

…..According to Mayor Doherty, were the Lake Como Police Department to dissolve without another borough willing to contract services, the public safety for residents of Belmar would have been compromised.

“If they disbanded and had no police department, whatever activity that would go on in the town would spill over into Belmar anyway,” Mayor Doherty said. “We would have to add on more police just to deal with whatever would come over from Lake Como. Public safety-wise, this was a no brainer. We have to do it.”…….

Maybe I’m wrong but is it legal for a municipality to just disband it’s police dept.? I mean that seems just a little, I can’t even find the adjective to explain that. Impeach? I think he should be sent back to 1st grade, does he even have a brain in his head? What about the residents of Lake Como’s safety.
I give up on this guy!

Seems to me the state and county can do the job in conjunction with a civilian patrol. No need for us to take over their police duties.

Having said that, does Belmar have a way out? Or are we committed to policing LC forever?

I’ve said it once and many times after that, they should get rid of their DPW and let belmar take it over. 4 salaries, 4 pensions and health benefits. Its a big savings too!

#2. Yes it is. Ocean Grove disbanded the P.D. And Neptune took it over. Then they took over the garbage. O.G. Has a local citizen patrol that rides the streets and Neptune responds to calls.

This whole thing is a well orchestrated political move for Matt and Brian and a nightmare for the residents of Belmar and Lake Como. Matt and Brian have dotted their “i”s and cross their “t”s with everyone on the state level. The disbandment wasn’t happening without a town like Belmar all lined up and ready to go. There were more meetings out in Trenton with ALL the players then imaginable. Matt is nothing but a liar and joke!

The terrible press about parking is going to really hurt the town income this season yet we will still have all the expenses. Also, why aren’t the businesses at the marina responsible to pick up the trash their enterprises generate? Why is the rest of the town responsible to pick up the tab for clean up? Matt and Colleen are a NIGHTMARE

#11. Leave it to Gene to coin a new term. Thank you for “puke letter”. It has brought great upset and more attacks on the “element”. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate positive letters regarding Belmar within reason. But when you are reading them and someone is stealing your lawn furniture, dealing drugs or puking on your lawn, such a utopian vision simply is not possible to the senses.

It seems to me that the authors of the “puke letters” are trying very hard to convince THEMSELVES that all is OK in Belmar. I wonder if they have a form letter that they pass around and edit a little to make the newest version vaguely original.
