I’m sure you have all heard that Kentucky Derby winner American Pharaoh won the Preakness yesterday and his owners are now hoping to win at Belmont for the racing Triple Crown.
Let’s go back 120 years to 1895. Grover Cleveland, my favorite president, is halfway through his second (history making, non-consecutive) term. The first gasoline-powered automobile in America is patented by Charles Duryea. The game of volleyball is invented by somebody named W G Morgan. The X-ray is discovered.
Who won the Preakness that year? Hint: He also won the 1895 Belmont Stakes but didn’t compete in the 1895 Kentucky Derby.
