Coincidentally, but totally appropriately, I can report that my friend Joy DeSanctis has filed a government records lawsuit under the Sunshine Law during National Sunshine Week.

Her suit demands Belmar to produce records of correspondence between the Borough and FEMA to see if she can find out if we did receive $5.4 million for the pavilions – as the mayor claimed in a letter to the voters days before last year’s referendum. If she finds we did receive the whole $5.4 million, she wants to know where it all went.
More Monmouth Musings published a very good story about it which I have embedded below. Please click on “CONTINUED”.
Belmar won’t disclose where FEMA money is,
Resident sues for records
Where is the $5.4 million that Matt Doherty claimed FEMA gave Belmar for Taylor Pavilion? Gov Chris Christie and his favorite mayor, Matt Doherty of Belmar, on the boardwalk celebrating Sandy recovery. Joy, I applaud and deeply appreciate your tenacity, focus, and courageous efforts to reveal the truth for the benefit of all Belmar residents.
Joy: Brains, purposeful, beauty, always ETHICAL with integrity and honor is showing how hard it is to get ANSWERS we lawfully have a right to see and understand.
She does not believe we should have a government that works underground but, rather she wants the SUN to SHINE through all the barriers so all the people don’t have to be SHEEPEOPLE. Thank you.
Obviously the mayor spoke threateningly (We will go around you, through you, etc.) to the wrong person. Hurrah!

Everyone sing along…. Happy Sunshine Law week in Belmar.
The money went away the same way the Shop Rite gift cards went or they donated to some other organization, or they spent it at another Democratic “fundraiser” Are they that stupid not to account for the money???
Has anyone requested any similar information from FEMA itself? Wouldn’t they also have records of communications?
I can confirm a FOIA Freedom of Information Act request was submitted. FOIA requests can take months, a lot of months, before receiving a response.
Just blows my mind the lack of public disclosure of this governing body and its employees to residents. Also shameful that a resident has to sue to obtain financial information. The financial officer, administrator, governing body and, no doubt the engineer know darn well what funds have been committed by any agency for projects. There must be financial worksheets done prior to introducing bond ordinances. I hope all this blows up in their faces for their arrogance.
