I hurd it was an 83 yr. old female woman who had gotten thrown out of BarA for drunkenness and beating a bouncer unmercifully. I also herd it took elevun burly men to get her out of their and that her language was dredful. Only after that did she wrec the car.
With the # of police officers in town, there should be a cop on 16th at all times on the weekend. Anyone going over the speed limit gets a ticket. Word will get out quickly. Most beach towns have strict enforcement of speed limits coming in and out of their towns. RT 35 is out of control too. Traffic goes way too fast through belmar on Rt. 35. There was a traffic study done a few years back to study ways to reduce speed through that area. Nothing ever resulted from it.
On average about two to three accidents like that will happen each week in Belmar during the summer. However most will be caused by men. The rest will be women who will claim they were trying to avoid running over a squirrel.
Please, please distribute and/or Send this column enmass to STATE FOR and Tom Arnone, Freehold Director. County Road – 16th Avenue Speedway was calmed down for only one (1) summer until the rocket scientists in the State/Freehold, etal, made Belmar remove the signs because it’s a County/State road. Remember back when what happened to Ocean Avenue when Kenny didn’t care what they said or threatened as he + implemented the stand Vertical, center of the roadway “slow down stop Pedestrian Crossing Signs” along Ocean Avenue years ago. He’s had brass ones and still does, God bless him.
#4 you are 100% correct. Once word gets out that if you speed in Belmar you WILL get a ticket, the speeding will significantly reduce. This is a problem that can be handled. It takes political will and effort by the police. Even just the threat of a crackdown is sometimes enough. Call the local papers and flood social media. Call it ‘operation cannonball’ or something stupid and sell it as a zero tolerance crackdown on speeders and reckless drivers in Belmar. This is actually a problem that can be fixed.
#2. Likely going way faster than 25 mph. Zero regard for residents. The story goes that the driver of flipped over muscle car was speeding and heading east and hit a parked car leading to the flip over.
I am sure we will be able to read about this accident in the Police Blotter for Belmar or Lake Como in the Coast Star. Oh wait! Our highly compensated Police Department is too lazy to submit a weekly blotter to the Coast Star. Or is the PD directed by the new regime just like with the old regime not to submit a blotter report. Don’t want to call attention to the insanity in the streets.
What a bummer it must have been for the driver heading home to his mom’s house in Bayonne where he lives in the basement. Big tough guy crashed his sweet ride and had to get an Uber home from bellmaaaa with his tail between his legs.
#10- You are 101% correct. Get the word on the street that Belmar cops are even more of a prik than the Wall cops are. The PROBLEM is this new regime (M&C) do not have the will. Fire them and once again vote in new people until we get this right. Jim Bean and Levis .
I love this and I’m posting it. Happy Independence day. I hope you all have a good day.
Gods and Generals Opening Titles with Mary Fahl’s “Going Home …
#19 you’re awake! Great to see you finally weighing on on an important topic like Tom’s choice of music. But crickets on the misdeeds you blindly supported over the last 8 years and the mess this put the town in today.
#20-Chirp! Chirp! Crickets make music too! I like all kinds of music…classical, pop, rock ‘n roll, jazz, religious… Become a music person, #20. It will help you to keep a good thought. Appreciating a wonderful piece of music is what I was attempting to accomplish…sorry you can’t see that. Listen to the music posted in # 17. It’ll brighten your day!
#20-My favorite patriotic song is “America The Beautiful.” The lyrics describe our country’s magnificent vistas…”From Sea to Shining Sea.”
What is your favorite patriotic song, #20?,
I am glad that Claire is still reading this blog. Why do I all of a sudden yearn for meatballs? Oh well…And I appreciate Mr. Dilberger’s song offering for the 4th. He is a cool and unique guy, for an “oldster.”
#25-Doobie-I’ve never smoked weed, but who knows ? I was making light of the negative spin #20 offered up about my comments about the beautiful selection posted by Tom . #20 is obviously not a music person.
#26-Bogart-( as in Humphrey? ) So glad you remembered my famous meatballs! And you’re a person who appreciates fine music! My kind of person and a great actor ! ( “Play it again Sam! ) I’ll leave you with one of my favorite movie quotes…”Leave the gun…take the cannolis.”
#28 Yes, I appreciate that Godfather quote as well, but I was spinning off doobie. There is a phrase “don’t bogart that joint” from a song in the movie Easy Rider. Humphrey had a way of holding a cigarette, and the phrase also means, “don’t hog the joint (marijuana cigarette), pass it over to me.” Would have been surprised if you had gotten this meaning. Also, smoking weed increases one’s appetite, hence the meatball memory. Believe it or not, I do not smoke weed but enjoy well made meatballs.
#29-Thank you so much for your excellent explanation of Bogart. Had no idea! Glad you have an appreciation of a “well-made” meatball. I’ll let you in on a secret…a perfect meatball secret-it’s all in the palms…rolling and rolling over and over again, then dropping the perfect morsel into thick, bubbling sauce ( or gravy…Italian people use both words. I grew up with using sauce…my South Philly relatives use gravy. )
Thanks for the tip, #30. Bogie used to dangle the cigarette from the corner of his mouth, like he was holding on to it instead of smoking it. Had to google the phrase for more info.
Claire deflecting and avoiding answering a real question like usual. Reminds me of another old relic named Joe Biden who stuck around way after his expiration date has passed. When asked a serious question about his historical political positions and support at the recent debate he deflected and avoided ending with “I’m sorry, my time is up”.
Speaking of songs, the “Taxman” a Beatles tune about what you get when you have 8 years of the previous regime, all the dummies on the dais, and the dopes that voted for them. “Any you are working for no one but me – Taxman!”
This song makes me think of the puppy master Matt and his faithful Claire. “So come now, let’s go dance to the sirens song. Come now, leave your damage behind and gone. Some are lost to you. Wasted time running scared all I need to believe in something like a summer and I know you need somebody like I do. And all of these foxes go down in their barrel to hide. They will leave you, they will leave you behind. So come now, let’s go dance the siren’s song. Come now, leave damage behind and gone. So come now; let’s do down to the dance floor.”
#32-If the gun part of the quote upsets you, focus on the cannolis . It’ll put you in a better frame of mind. Concentrate on those delicious Italian treats, and forget about the weapon. (If you’re posting in jest, so am I! If you aren’t joking, lighten up!)
Oh Claire you still can’t answer a serious question. Do you feel used knowing what Matt did to Belmar while you blindly supported or do you still think everything was just great?
#43 the real Claire- The songs are great for sure and the movie quotes too. Godfather and Casablanca are classics and we all love Peter, Paul, and Mary.
I was wondering, since you posted, if you wouldn’t mind giving an honest reaction to the well documented and publicized news about Matt and Jen and Brian and the unethical things they did while in positions of power. I am not trying to pressure you nor am I attacking you. I am just curious to hear the thoughts of a supporter. Most on this blog never liked Matt and it can be like an echo chamber at times. It would be great to hear from someone who was a big supporter of the former mayor. Even if you still support him. I understand if you don’t want to get into it and, frankly, it’s none of our business. But I would appreciate an honest breakdown of your feelings about Matt and some of the things he’s done. Thank you.
Anyone have details on the car that almost hit the house across the street from Bar A last week? Trunk was crushed forward. It has been parked in gas station lot. Took out light post also.
I hope you reconsider, Claire. We’d like to know if you’ve lost faith in Matt or if you haven’t, you could argue why. Totally understand if you don’t want to talk about it. It’s gotta be tough.
Claire does not have the guts to say anything negative toward the previous Mayor and Council lest she lose invites to those fancy Inlet Terrace cocktail parties for the connected Dems.
I think Claire is smart enough to know how badly she was used by carpet bagger Matt and Colleen and the negative impact it will have on Belmar for decades to come. She must feel awful and embarrassed to be duped like that for 8 years.
46-49 comments-No, Claire won’t be attending cocktail parties on Inlet Terrace-or anywhere else. She is having a second round of breast cancer. First time was 20 years ago. She’s had surgery and is waiting for the start of post-surgery treatments; radiation and possibly chemo. Talk about her not have guts? When she got the diagnosis not a wimped or a moan. She has guts , the likes of which none of you can understand. What nasty remarks.
#50 thank you for the update.
No one wants anyone to go through that. If you read my comments, you’ll see I was being kind. Merely curious.
Claire holds her own pretty well on this blog and I wanted to hear her thoughts. She is in all of our thoughts and prayers.
#49-Claire never felt used. She was so happy to serve the community of Belmar that she loves. As a friend, I know how much she put into the position as councilwoman. According to former Mayor Pringle, she was the most “hands on” council person that he had the experience of working with in his many years as mayor. Her outreach to the community was constant and sincere.
#48-Rude and insensitive remark. This person is bitter . These words are true whether you knew of Claire’s present health issue, or not. Maybe you need a cocktail to calm your jets, # 48.
I’m a former member of the ADA committee when Councilwoman Deicke headed this committee. I checked with her about the accomplishments and suggestions made by her during her tenure . Several new handicapped parking spaces were added at the beachfront, a handicapped parking space on Main Street at borough hall entrance, program about autism with experts in the field, program and outreach supporting families with handicapped children, mats on the beach-suggested by the councilwoman so that handicapped individuals can get to the water’s edge with ease ( followed through by then DPW chair Andy Meurele who came up with, and oversaw the purchase of the mobi mats, and parents of children with handicaps were invited to every ADA meeting, whether they were members of the committee or not. Concerns of these parents were listened to and acted upon.Claire also held a program for deaf individuals. She supported events for handicapped by baking cookies and knitting scarves to for sale to benefit organizations supporting the handicapped , and encouraged others to do the same. To those who malign her is to not understand all that she did for our community. Also, additional curb cut-outs were added so that wheelchairs can navigate to the streets more easily.
Anonymous #55; as a past member of the ADA committee you should be aware the term handicapped is outdated and no longer used. People with disabilities….
Heard a medical professional used the word handicapped recently about a relative of mine. So some people, even professionals, use the word handicapped . So, #56, the word is still widely used. You’re not wrong, and I’m not wrong.
#55..Claire accomplished many things as ADA chair; however, she did NOT suggest or present a portfolio about mobimats on the beach. One of the committee members put together a colorful portfolio about accessible walkways on the beach which included mobimats..Matt Doherty was ADA Chairperson at this time.
Claire suggested a walkway to the ocean from the boardwalk onto the sand. She got the idea, as I recall, after seeing a small wheelchair right along side the ramp . She may not have chaired the ADA committee at the time , but the initial idea was hers. Maybe she didn’t oversee all of the details. No portfolios were involved.. Andy Meurle did all of the leg work to bring the mobi mats to the beach. Claire’s idea was some sort of wooden plank as a walkway. Andy did better than that with the mats presently on our beach . This information has been confirmed by Claire. She’s not taking credit for what is now in place with the beach mats, only the idea of it.
#61. I disagree with you!It was me who presented the portfoilio about accessible pathways to the beaches.. All the information I put together was from a company called Mr. Boardwalk, Pt. Pleasant Bch. Matt Doherty was Chairperson of the ADA at that time.
The Coast Star had an article about the mobi mats..around 2008/2009. Claire was not chairperson at that time..Look up the article in The Coast Star archives.
ADA in Belmar is a Joke , Djais doesnt have 1 thats right 1 handicap parking spot !!! Just saying . Never a word at the meeting about the backyard expansion. Is the backyard at Djias ADA complaint ?
We have a difference of opinion. The original thought came from Claire. If you were involved in the follow-up, as many others were, great! Let’s leave it at that. In the end, what difference does it make? We have mats on our beaches that serve our beach goers . End of story. I’m not commenting on the subject again.
What I don’t understand is why the mobimats aren’t placed at the entrances closest to bathrooms. I mean, if someone is using a cane or wheelchair to get to the beach, don’t you think they would appreciate a shorter walk to use the facilities? Poor planning by the person in charge. It’s been that way for the past few years now. Move them closer to the bathroom trailers or get more and put them at every entrance.
I am on Missy’s side on this one, it was all her. To say “let’s move on” is not fair to her. Missy has done so much for our community as well. Thank you Missy for clarifying, I remember the circumstances and I was as thankful then as I am now.
This is for Claire – Claire, My favorite of this is the 2nd set (P.B. Flat Blues 2:47 – That guy on that trumpet is really wailing – a real hep cat as we used to say)
————————————-
For the rest of you, I hope you enjoy it. I know it’s hard for people of younger age groups to pick up music like this but if you listen, you can hear the layering of instruments and the in and out of pieces as the music continues. People like Claire just get it right away. Try this, you might enjoy it.

Isn’t the word handicap on all signage for parking spaces or have all signs been changed to people with disabilities? When words get extinguished from our vocabulary it should become universal. Also I have suggested walkie talkies or some type of communication between badge checkers and those in charge. Many times those wishing to have access to the wheelchair are sent on a wild goose chase locating the chair because it is used on many streets. It’s hard enough for those with disabilities to get to the beach only to spend quality time hunting for the wheelchair. Designate specified locations and make life easier.
#69-Thank you, Tom! The music is most enjoyable and new to me. As you know, I like all kinds of music. Jazz selections present chords and musical phrases which are unique.
#70. Vickie…I have used the handicapped beach wheelchairs at Avon beach. They have two
chairs at the LifeGuard Station on Sylvania Ave and there is one at north end beach. Even though I had family with me, the badge checkers graciuosly pushed
the wheelchair across the sand. Avon has mobi mats, too. As you know the mobi mats
only go so far.I think south end beach badge booth has a wheelchair, too. If there is more demand than supply at Avon beach, the badge checkers will as if it okay to use the beach wheelchairs to transport other beachgoers.
Perhaps Belmar should have at least one beach wheelchair at Taylor Pavilion,10th Ave, and 16th Ave. Where, when, how,who is responsible for the beach wheelchairs
could be included in Belmar’s beach assessibilty guide..Posted on Belmar Beach website.
Thank you, Tom! The music is most enjoyable and new to me. As you know, I like all kinds of music. Jazz selections present chords and musical phrases which are unique.
( slip of the finger with name spelling in the above message to Tom.)
#68-No one is putting Missy down. Or minimizing her role as an ADA member. It was Claire’s initial comments about having wooden boards on the sand for handicapped people to get to the water. Everyone else on the committee joined in on the effort about making it easier for the handicapped at the beach. including Missy. The boards was just one idea, maybe not the best idea, but it brought the notion of a path to the water to the ADA members. Andy Meurele found the mobi mats for us. He was DPW boss at the time. As I recall, the mobi mats were designed by the French.

Don’t worry Mayor and Council, the bars are safe, its just the streets that are getting out of control.
Love the 25MPH speed sign next to the flipped car! How do you flip a car going 25MPH?
I hurd it was an 83 yr. old female woman who had gotten thrown out of BarA for drunkenness and beating a bouncer unmercifully. I also herd it took elevun burly men to get her out of their and that her language was dredful. Only after that did she wrec the car.

16th Ave is the municipal boundary … do the police issue tickets for Belmar or Lake Como courts?

That road barely fits the gas guzzlers they all drive.Peanut males/females.I
It’s like a rural outpost road. And the idiots with children 3 abreast even walk in the street like they are on a farm field. What gives with that?
Are they dealer plates?
#4 you are 100% correct. Once word gets out that if you speed in Belmar you WILL get a ticket, the speeding will significantly reduce. This is a problem that can be handled. It takes political will and effort by the police. Even just the threat of a crackdown is sometimes enough. Call the local papers and flood social media. Call it ‘operation cannonball’ or something stupid and sell it as a zero tolerance crackdown on speeders and reckless drivers in Belmar. This is actually a problem that can be fixed.
#7- stop signs are not the answer, enforcing the speed limit is.
#9. zooming in on the image they just look like shiny new NJ plates.
#2. Likely going way faster than 25 mph. Zero regard for residents. The story goes that the driver of flipped over muscle car was speeding and heading east and hit a parked car leading to the flip over.

Love all these music/song references! #33-Another old relic? Not so much…Biden, perhaps..but not me.
Another great song to add to our growing list-“Stewball Was A Racehorse.” Lots of life’s lessons in this song… Performed by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Oh Claire you still can’t answer a serious question. Do you feel used knowing what Matt did to Belmar while you blindly supported or do you still think everything was just great?
OK. You go me. Yes I was a fool to believe my buddy Matt was on the up and up. But he sure does love my meatballs. I am now supporting Bean and Levis.
The above is not really Claire Deicke

ADA in Belmar is a Joke , Djais doesnt have 1 thats right 1 handicap parking spot !!! Just saying . Never a word at the meeting about the backyard expansion. Is the backyard at Djias ADA complaint ?
We have a difference of opinion. The original thought came from Claire. If you were involved in the follow-up, as many others were, great! Let’s leave it at that. In the end, what difference does it make? We have mats on our beaches that serve our beach goers . End of story. I’m not commenting on the subject again.
#63-You have no idea of the accomplishments of Belmar’s ADA. You are basing your opinion on limited knowledge as to what goes on in your town.
#64 commentary is meant for # 62.
