Tom Brennan Too Good For Belmar

I don’t know if I’ve said this on the blog–I might have–but I have said in spoken conversations that I think Councilman Thomas Brennan ought to resign due to the fact that he never told the voters when he was running for office that he was conflicted from participating in discussions or from voting on liquor licenses.  He then…for his entire first year in office…voted on every liquor license that came up, even for a bar that his band played at within days of him voting on their license!  He waited until the night that Belmar stiffed the Harmon brothers on their license transfer to suddenly announce he was conflicted and wouldn’t be participating in liquor license proceedings any more.  Thanks a lot.

This is no trivial matter.  Protecting the residents’ quality of life is an important part of the job.  Deliberations over liquor licenses and their impact on the quality of life here is something every member of the Council, and the Mayor, should be participating in and doing so without being conflicted.  Brennan and Doherty can’t do their jobs.

But another reason Brennan should go is that he is apparently of too high a moral character to represent all the hate-filled barbarians that make up his constituency.  You see the voters of Belmar like Donald Trump a lot more than they like Tom Brennan.

Tom Brennan’s election numbers:screen-shot-2016-11-20-at-6-28-36-amscreen-shot-2016-11-20-at-6-31-05-amscreen-shot-2016-11-20-at-6-31-06-am

Donald Trump’s election numbers in Belmar:screen-shot-2016-11-20-at-5-42-18-am

And Trump didn’t get 250 votes hand delivered from D’Jais.

Councilman Brennan’s Facebook page is an anti-Trump hatefest with nothing being too ugly or out of bounds to post there.

Of course Mr. Brennan has every right to publish this stuff but do we really want someone representing us who thinks that nearly 1600 of his constituents are racists, misogynists, xenophobes and Jew haters who supported a dangerous, glue-sniffing, abnormal, POS crackpot for president?

All these postings should be fowarded to the Superintendent of Belmar School and he should be fired! Brennan should be made to resign immediately and hang his head in shame! He is a disgrace as a educator!!!

It seems that students are also exposed to such rhetoric and that is such a shame. Teachers are now influencing our children by these types of examples? I don’t get it. Is there no decorum being taught? What about bearing?

My three kids have never heard Mr. Brennan talk politics in class. I guess we have to see that he is a Democrat and can exercise his right to free speech. Dave if you won council would you have shut down this blog? I guess you would have. But would you not post any anti-Hillary stuff on Facebook? That might have been hard for you. I don’t think he puts Trumps voters in the same category as Trump. And I think if you disagree, the answer is just to vote for his opposition in the next election. Otherwise the point you’re making is more in line with what a political advisor would tell him. But of course (and I know you acknowledged this) he can do what he wants in terms of stating his opinion.

Aileen, as you know there was all sorts of really nasty things out there about Hillary, I never put any of it up on these pages because I don’t post nasty things. (Some of the commenters get nasty, I admit, but I also didn’t hold Tom responsible for the nasty things his commenters said.) The kind of hatred and name calling he posted certainly has no place on the page of an elected official. It’s particularly disturbing to see him posting that kind of rhetoric after he knew so many people in Belmar supported Trump. And that article he shared about that Michael Hill nut was meant to demonstrate to us what sort of people support Donald Trump.

About whether I would have continued the blog had I been elected..I think it would have been a useful way to give detailed explanations of my views on the issues so yes I probably would have kept it.

Aileen, I agree with you. Apparently these posters don’t realize that kids today through social media are much more engaged than we ever were at their age. My granddaughter at age 14 has never spoken of a teacher shoving their political views down her throat and has a diversified group of friends. She loves, not hates them for who they are. Whatever Mr. Brennen posts are his opinions and the First Amendment prevails as our opinions on this blog. Our President-Elect has woke up those who strongly believe the white race in this country is superior and must be saved. His Cabinet/Advisor appointments reinforces this. Fire Trump for exercising his First Amendment right to post on Twitter.

3> I said Brennan should resign because the voters weren’t told he was conflicted from participating in liquor license deliberations. I never said he should be fired from anything and if he wants to publish that stuff he has every legal right to do so. But my readers…probably hundreds of them voted for Trump…have a right to know what their councilman is saying about Trump and Trump supporters.

Just wanted to put a fine point on it Dave. While I often disagree with your bloggers and even you, I must admit that you have created a democratic avenue to address issues. You don’t suppress my posts even when you disagree with them and you OPRA important facts. It’s refreshing to be able to disagree with someone on the other side of the aisle and know that it will be civil.

To your points #1, I know you didn’t, I was replying to Aileen’s post, #2 pls read my post, I never said all of Trump’s voters, of course I don’t believe they are all white supremacists, and #3 I was commenting on the opinion of one of the bloggers, not you. I did not comment on your position that Mr. Brennan should resign over liquor issues. Perhaps he should.

Aileen-To think that Brennan does not negatively characterize, as well as look down on those who voted for Trump ( Belmar and beyond) makes no sense. Just another, it can’t be so, rose colored glasses Belmar nonsense. Brennan has used his facebook to attack the Tea Party, Anti Abortion Catholics, Christians in general and then endorse the radical website “occupy Democrats for years now. When I taught, I made sure that I had no such political remarks attributed to me on facebook or any other social media site. Good job Dave on this blog article.

At the same time, I am a ticket-splitter, I did not vote for Trump, think he is very wrong for the country (unfortunately you will all find that out soon enough) and the Trump vote in Belmar should have nothing to do with Council politics. Brennan and Matt should resign. When are we going to recall matt?

Aileen, perhaps a little perspective is in order. A person in the private sector who posted what the councilman posted would run the risk of losing clients/customers and would be punished accordingly by loss of income. What recourse do students and their parents have , ask for another teacher? Seems to me as a teacher he is a protected species who is not curbed in his actions as someone in the private sector would be. As a private citizen he can say anything he wants [1st Amendment you know]but he is also a school representative and has a captive audience to boot. Does the bd of ed not have any policies that require teachers to have ethics?
And for Dave, let me echo the thanks a lot on the recusal in the Harmon matter. We will be paying a lot for that little piece of work in my opinion.

Off topic but please Mr. ADMIN tell us if BELMAR is going to receive any of the 100 special signage that illustrates the Super Storm Sandy high water mark?

Long Branch received the first of approximately 100 throughout Monmouth County as part of the high Water Mark Initiative, in collaboration with FEMAIL and NFIP.

YOU KNOW like the mayor and council sign saying we got the $$$ for the brick exchange program on Main Street right before the election at the POLLING PLACE… yep, blatant electon violations.

#19 Actually Belmar was one of the first towns to join the High Water Mark Initiate with the County. Other towns including Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Avon, Hazlet, Keansburg, Manasquan, Middletown, etc. have already posted the signs and metal tags throughout their communities. Long Branch is the latest town to join the program. What more important is the signs are part of the Community Rating System which affords those in Belmar a 20% discount on Flood Insurance Policies.

I do not have faith in children when they are placed in the charge of such a person, in fact, when they surf the net.
