I’m not talking about his personal appearance at the meetings. He still dresses the same. Of course I’m not one to talk, but if I had won election to the Council I would have dressed the part. Actually that would have been a good reason to vote for me just to see me shaved and wearing a tie and jacket. Now you’ll never get the chance.
No, the appearance that Mr. Brennan has now taken an interest in is the appearance of impropriety and that interest seems to have been born on the night of the controversial rejection of the Harmon brothers’ application to have their liquor license transferred across the street to Greg Kapalko’s new facility. On that night Mr. Brennan announced that out of an abundance of caution blah blah blah he would not vote on liquor licenses because his band might play at bars in Belmar. Since the mayor was absent, that left only Nicolay, Magovern and Blackburn to vote. Nicolay and Blackburn voted “no” and the rest is history. Or actually history in the making because this affair is certainly not over.
At the public comments that night, and here on these pages too, I have expressed concern that we have a Councilman that is compromised in such a way and is unable to perform an important part of his duties. Why was this not mentioned when he was running for office? And what did he do about this last year as a Councilman?
I decided to check the 2015 minutes to see if he recused himself from any liquor license votes his first year in office.
Going to the agenda page for 2015, the first thing I notice is that the minutes are missing for two of the meetings. (Nothing is ever easy.)
I checked the agenda for the 4/21/15 meeting and there was nothing about liquor licenses. I’ll get to the other one later.
The 5/5/15 meeting had license votes.
Brennan was there and voted in the affirmative on three liquor licenses.
Moving on we have the meeting on 8/18/15.“Yes” on seven more.
The minutes are missing for the 9/15/15 meeting so let’s look at the agenda for that night:
Hmm. Jack’s, Boathouse and 507 Main. Did Brennan recuse that night? Fortunately for us there’s a guy who tapes the meetings and puts them up on his blog. We can go to the tape and watch the roll call on the consent agenda.See his mouth is open? He’s saying “yes”.
The 11/10/15 consent agenda had a liquor license resolution but the minutes are missing the roll call. (!)These defective minutes were unanimously approved by the Council, BTW.
We are forced again to go to the meeting tape to see what happened.“Yes”.
So even though last Wednesday night, when Brennan opted out of voting on a dozen liquor license issues, including the one we are probably going to be sued over, in 2015 he voted on every liquor license and voted “yes” every time.
But wait. Maybe Brennan didn’t get any gigs from bars in Belmar in 2015. That would explain the absence of recusals in 2015. I decided to look at his Facebook page for 2015 because I know he mentions his band’s appearances there. As you know, when we scroll down we go backwards in time. We start in December 2015.About one month into my search I got tired of hearing about how unfair we are to Muslims over the terrorism and about how Christians are just as bad I guess. So I switched to the band’s Facebook page and continued.Four days after the above gig at Jack’s he voted “yes” on their liquor license. (That was one of the two meetings that the minutes are missing from the Borough website.)10th Ave Burrito got a “yes” vote too from Mr. Brennan.I think it’s little late to avoid the appearance of impropriety and Brennan’s sudden interest in the subject on the night of the bogus Harmon vote only makes matters worse.

U r up for reporter of the year
Have a feeling u haven’t even scratched the surface yet which is scary
Maybe Brennon should get ” hypocrite of the year”. How do these folks look in the mirror.
Thank you Dave. You are a true journalist.
Brian grow a pair
Shut is getting real…major cya move
Symbolism over substance. Forget this impropriety thing. A complete “Matt Lackey”
This is subpoena fodder for the Harmon/Kapalko lawsuit.
Dave, the depth and breadth of your investigative efforts to uncover absolute, undeniable truth has been inspirational to me and is a primary reason I’ve become active in Belmar’s “recovery” from the damage and ongoing threat of the Doherty agenda. Thank you.
Brennan owes a full explanation to the residents of Belmar. When the hell are these people going to think for themselves and not listen to Matt ?! Good job Tom… Like the lawyer said, “see ya in court”
A rat infested building is knocked down.
The area is
1. Next to railroad track
2. Next to a major highway bridge
3. Across the street from the Belmar PD headquarters
4. There is a bar next door, and a former bar 50 yards away.
5. The developer is approved by the town
Wow if this is not a spot for a bar, what is?
Jen and Janice are not telling the truth here.
What is the real reason?
Simple explanation …. the Foster Grants clouded his judgement in 2015 …. and now he sees the light.
Jen and Janice are not telling the truth here

They’re just a couple of dizzy women who’re along for the ride. Their dumb babbling is a joke.
Maybe the state license outweighs the Belmar licenses? Pier 9
The two female council members are dupes and dolts, puppets of the mayor, not dizzy. I am “dizzy” from all the spinning of facts and truths and motivations by the administration. The cool dude councilman is just an opportunist hypocrite. Another pawn, certainly.
Don’t trust Magovern, either, as he is part of the crew that runs the town, most likely complicit in the shenanigans. The whole gang must be voted out. Brian knows what is “best for Belmar” WHETHER IT IS LEGAL OR NOT – he actually said that at a meeting.
He was not going to sit back and let a judge tell him what to do in Belmar
Vote Matt’s cronies out.
“The train keeps a rollin'” – the NJ Transit train noise can drown out the racket from the brewski drinkers. Maybe Brennan can write a new tune for that situation and his band can play it at the 10th Avenue Burrito, a serenade to Gene Murray. Where does his apartment face?
There isn’t a day I wake up is this town on the “beautiful sea” that I don’t thank the creator that when I turned 60 years of age like Tommy Brennan, my life wasn’t a cliche’.
Sad for Tommy , but there are no assurances. Some sell outs creep up on you and then its too late.
