Seriously! I want a life where in less than a year I’ve got another million dollars to spend on a building to tear it down and improve my view. He should have dropped the price years prior, may have less headaches now. The place was for sale since 2013. There was plenty of time for anyone to go in and buy it. Why not a bed and breakfast? Is there a landmark/historic preservation group that can prevent any of this?

Umm.. @money is the root of all evil – Do you even have a clue what you are speaking of? Why drop the price for a 2nd offer when you are under contract? Typically, once there is an offer it goes to highest and best, and that is BEFORE a property is under contract. There were a few offers in play at the time, Mr. Merker’s was the most appealing because he is also a neighbor, not an out of town developer as the others were. Do your research on the zoning and the history of the building. I love the freaking peanut gallery. The fact is the density will go down with Down to Earth/Merkler’s plan. 34 rooms to six units that we all know will be non primary residents, just like the Puleos and Russells. The Puleos are being greedy.. and trying to inflict financial harm. They threatened to do so and they are doing so. They even waited til the last hour to file their appeal against the approved project. I’d love to have over a million dollars to spend on a second home.. If I did I certainly would not be an evil mother that tries to hurt my neighbor like the Puleos are doing.. if I wanted a clear ocean view, I would have bought the property closest to the ocean. They should by in Sea Girt instead of wasting their money trying to inflict pain on others because they feel entitled.

The fact of the matter is the Puleos think they are entitled to demand and threaten what others do with their property, they think because they inherited from their family business their success and fortune, and use their disposal money to threaten and damage others because lets face it they are acting like sore losers and children. Their actions through out the whole process of this application and now appeal have demonstrated that from their delay delay tactics to now this. Dont be fooled that they are acting in the interest of “Belmar” and the “Community” they are a self serving family that only cares about themselves. They do not care if taxes decrease in the borough as they have more money to waste, clearly. A couple of thousand of dollars is nothing to them, but I can say effects my budget and makes or breaks if I can take a modest family vacation during the year, I am sure more of the Borough relates with my budget and income then that of the Puleos. Our whole community whether you like the project at issue or not should not welcome or be happy that these type of neighbors think they have control because they have the financial stamina to fight dirty, threaten and continue to threaten to financial harm people. Mr. Merkler and Down to Earth is a successful hardworking self made individual I have nothing but positive things to say about him and his family they do not deserve this and poor Mr. Wagner imagine admitting that you would like to retire basically and move on with you life and cash out of your long hard earned years of sweat equity and the Puleos basically say “F-You Mr. W we want it our way and we will put you into bankruptcy, foreclosure, etc if we have to.” Over a hundred years his family has added to the Belmar Community and this is what he gets…… Makes me sick

@#4 Anonymous – perfectly stated. My only correction is not 100 years, since 1963, a lifetime. As a person who has known Tom Wagner for 30 years, I totally agree with your assessment. He has provided 34 rooms at an affordable price for many families and individuals to enjoy summers in Belmar. His guests/tenants came from all walks of life. He is the sole caretaker for the building and the property. He cannot be in two places at once. He spends every other week with his elderly father since 2013. He is ready to move on. He has paid his dues. The Puleos are entitled brats who don’t care for anyone but themselves, not their neighbors. They can afford to stretch this out and cause harm to Mr. Wagner and Mr. Merkler. Are they happy with themselves? How do they sleep?
