At the most recent council meeting the mayor made a comment about the beer hall near the boardwalk “rumor” that circulated around town a couple of weeks ago. He said he was misquoted and that he was talking about the brewery and that there were no plans for a beer hall and that he didn’t even know what a beer hall was.
You know the Wall Street Journal is fastidious about corrections. I glance at the corrections section every day to see if there is anything relevant to any stories I’ve read. Here is yesterday’s:
They published a correction about the brand name of a window. But I haven’t seen a correction of the beer hall story. (I checked their website just to make sure I didn’t miss it.)
If I were so badly misquoted over such a hot-button issue, I would have called them immediately. The mayor knew about the misquote on the day it was published because I reported the beer hall story the day it was published. Yet no correction.
Seems kind of strange.

Per the WSJ:
“In Belmar, only about a dozen families haven’t returned home, said Mayor Matt Doherty. A new beer hall is opening near the boardwalk, and beachfront homes are under construction down many streets.”

I’m still confused about “BUY-A-BOARD” and the “Responsible Bidder” knuckle ball thrown at potential pavilion bidders…. Can we believe anything the good mayor says?
When is a rose not a rose? When it is a bold-faced lie. To me, no correction means that the Mayor was quoted correctly. Contact the WSJ, Mr. Mayor, and ask them to quote you correctly if they misquoted you. The phone number is right here above.
I feel the mayor is giving up on Main Street by moving more liquer license to ocean ave.How many bodegas can one little town have?
Reading the Maggie Moran letter and the previous discussion in Common Sense about her apparent conflict of interest with relationships with Ashbritt, Ferrara, Epic and Liuna, this discussion should be brought to a head and factual conclusion during this election season. Did she or did she not have ANY relationship with those firms as clients, as an employee or as personal/social relationships?
The Mayor went after Jim Bean in the last Council meeting questioning him intensely and repeatedly about the potential for his paving/construction co. to bid on a future job in Belmar, implying a potential, hypotheticcal, future conflict of interest, while it appears that his wife has real, documented conflicts already.
The Mayor leaves the diaz with great fanfare when liquor license issues are voted on for the Hibernian Club, which is trivial compared to the pre-favored bidding process on major Belmar projects where real conflicts seem to exist.
I’m discussed to be breathing the same air as you idiots. Do you see a beer hall being built on ocean ave? Know why you don’t? Because there isn’t one. The mayor didn’t lie about it. All of you should move to avon and go ruin their town. They have no business on ocean ave. I’m sure you’d like that. Seriously you think the mayor is lying about a beer hall. You are a moron
This is not Mark Fitzgerald.
