Paul Williams has a story about the Epic bid award in the APP today. Click on it to read it.
I speculated in an earlier column that the reason Belmar was contemplating building the pavilions on it’s own was that it didn’t appropriate enough money to pay Epic what they wanted to do it. Now the town has turned around and decided to hire Epic but there has to be a focus on “value engineering” to save as much money or even more than we supposedly would have saved by doing it ourselves.
Anyone who reads the above story would think that we have plenty of money for the project, that we can borrow “up to $5.8 million” and that Epic only needs $5.45 million. They would think that all this emphasis on saving money is simply good government going the extra mile to get the taxpayers the most bang for their buck. But it’s actually out of necessity. Unmentioned in the story is that the job can’t really be completed for $5.45 million unless we become a town of very good jumpers.
Yes, bids 1 and 2 come out to the 5.45 mil but what about bid 1A? That’s for the decking, ramps and railings that are needed for anyone to get in the buildings.
Maybe this is where the “value engineering” will come into play.

Everyone should go back to this administration’s last project-Boardwalk. All the same players, same engineers now with Maser- Same OH WE FORGOT THE —DAMN RAMPS and their costs. Everyone please realize this group of “professionals” has problems learning from the past.
ELECTIONS, we got elections, we’ve got lots and lots of elections. So answer: Costs, estimated or not, what are the projected expenses the will be due to any vendor for the accoutrement(s) to the PAVILION(s) such as, and more particularly, ramps, decking and railings?
WHO HAS THOSE ANSWERS? The governing body has cost us a fortune playing games with these pavilions. Stop the gamesmanship you idiots.
They never learn. What a damn shame. It’s over Johnny….Rambo (I)
Anonymous donors will surely pay for all of the accoutrements for the pavilions, including but not limited to interior accoutrements!
My grandparents, who came to this country legally through Ellis Island, taught me one valuable lesson. The ONLY way to SAVE money is to not spend it at all. Please refrain from using the word SAVE. 10% off a $10 hot dog is a $9 hot dog worth about 3 bucks. A hot dog you really didn’t need anyway. SAVE is when you just don’t buy that $9 hot dog.
Loosers gonna LOOOSE BAYBAY – here we COME I want beer here on the PAVILLION steps BAYBAY
Watch out, that first step is going to be a doozy even without the beer.
I know how they can save money. They can sub out all the difficult work and use “USED” building supplies.
NO sheeta rocka from China please. N9 naile instead of stainless steela screws. minutia COUNTS
3 safety tips when entering a assembly use room in Belmar:
1. Means of Egress …. identify doorways that lead to a street
2. Fire Protection …. look at the room ceiling for water sprinkler heads …. most are chrome.
3. Forces of Coercion …. check the other occupants
Does Borough Hall courtroom/assembly hall have sprinklers? I hope so. Sure was hot in there Tuesday evening!
