Congrats to Bill Merkler and Company, glad to see after all of this a successful outcome for this project and community. Wishing you all the best and support, thankful our community has people to continue to make improvements in this great town.
I would not trust the decisions of the zoning board when aesthetics seem to dominate in weighing their votes when the variances requested are excessive. OK, many were troubled, but voted yes anyway. If such a project is proposed in your neighborhood, oh so pretty by Ms. Hearn’s architectural expertise, and residents complain because the project is too intrusive and requires ignoring existing zoning terms, beware. Attractive is not enough. Also, the personality of the builder/developer is irrelevant. I am disappointed in this decision, although the new proposed structure “looks nice”.
At the meeting, several people praised the work of Mary Hearn and her building style, not me, for sure. Drive into Belmar over the Main Street bridge or ride the train over the inlet and be greeted by two behemoths on Main Street at the bridge. Not attractive and out of place. I don’t know who designed those buildings, but they contribute to the planned community look. Wait for the Belmar Inn proposed project to be resurrected. More Mary genius. And listen to the short comment by board member Palmisano about why he voted yes.
#8 “I don’t know who designed those buildings, but they contribute to the planned community look.” Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like Kandinsky, some like Delacroix.

And the eventual tax income from the demolition of the Whitehouse and improved development will be approximately? ??

#4 – I actually disagree. When will we switch from the Mary Hern style in this town? It’s going to look like a planned community.

Negative Nellie’s.. it is going to be beautiful.
Goosie Gander – Bad examples used. Neither of those behemoth buildings were designed by Hearn. Try again….

Or in the world of architecture, some like Palladio, some like Gaudi, lest I be off topic.
Employment of architects is projected to grow 4 percent from 2016 to 2026, slower than the average for all occupations.

#12 Thanks. OK for many, apparently. She gets those variances, can’t argue about that.
