Police officers in a one mile town making 200k,no wonder the town of Belmar is broke.

Wow. First year lifeguard chief paid over 26 k when the experienced guys fired making well under that. That’s a nice raise I am sure that will just feed into the lawsuit being filed and wasn’t that job advertised at 15 k? Pays to know someone !

Time to consider farming out our Police Dept. Use your newly chosen Labor attorney to get these salaries down. The party is over. I bet half these high flying salaries don’t even live in town. Tack another$50k in benefits and who do you think is paying for it. Mr. Mayor- Slash all budgets prior to even considering raising taxes. Be a man.

Police in Newark make between $58,000 and $68,000/ year. Salaries in Belmar and Newark should be switched.
I would happily accept a tax increase to pay down the debt… The only caveat is the out of control town spending must be reduced… That includes reviewing the school budget as well to determine if a charter school system is appropriate…

M and C- You need to send out RIF notices to all employees ASAP (March 1st). Cutting the $1M needed for debt should be an easy task looking at these salaries. Freeze all hiring as you show these people the door. And the other kick in the teeth is Dem. Gov, Murphy forcing raises on all summer help. UGH NO MORE TAXES
Un f ing believable!! Lifeguard chief Kerecman,unqualified, no experience, know nothing puppet who hid under the pier whenever shot hit the fan. Made well over 10k more than the guys with 40 plus years of experience. What a scam! He should go hide under a conch shell and never show his face again.

Acting chief Andrew Huisman should be fire immediately. Not only for stealing money from the taxpayers of Belmar but for complete mismanagement and incompetence for running a one square mile police department.

What a scam it is, Lifeguard Chief making that much more than the 40+ year experienced guys is disgusting! How can you hire a inexperienced person who has absolutely NO CLUE for more than all the years the others had? Oh I forgot, you have to know the right person! Police salaries are unreal. I thought we were supposed to save money by taking over lake como police. It seems the only ones to make out are the citizens of lake como while the taxpayers of belmar for the and suffer severe tax increases. Not right.

A police office being charged full time to the beach utility is stealing from the beach tag buyer to lower property taxes. This is against the law. The court came down hard on Belmar for charging Specials (Officers) working in the evening hours of summer being charged to the Beach utility, what do you think they would say about seasons when the beach isn’t even manned? The court ruled that only officers that work on the beach front during charging hours can be compensated with beach funds. The beach tags buyer is paying for their safety with lifeguards and police. Why should they pay to breaking up fights between D’Jais customers on private property or the St. Patty’s parade?
Yes these rules stink, but it is the law. If the Mayor and council (they ALL voted yes but me on the budgets) would have taken the politically unpopular fiscal discipline approach on managing the town, these salaries would have never gotten out of control like this. Now Belmar taxpayers will clean up the mess.
I bet Hiseman more than $198,000.
Belmar Council needs to follow in the foot steps of Lake Como. Let the residents vote on the next ballot. Keep the police and raise taxes or contract the police out to another agency and lower taxes.
I dont believe a local municipality would be willing to pickup Belmar policing duties… Who would want to deal with the mess that occurs in the summer months… We need to fix this ourselves… Farming these duties out is just wishful thinking…

Granted these numbers are out of control , PD is not an easy job no matter the town your working in today’s world. The number that number that really makes me shake my head is roughly $128,053 for Lavatory attendant ? On top of the $128,053 , they are allowed tips cups ? Plus a large portion collect unemployment all winter , for a seasonal job!
Unemployment is not FREE the town pays. It would be cheaper to sub out the bathroom attendant job than continue they way it is today.
Tom Brennan should kick in money from his inflated BOE salary to help pay for the shortfall. He voted for the budgets he should PAY!!!!

This what you get when the Kool Aid crew aka McDirty and the Queen of Mean, and their followers get to bully everyone in town for years. And people voted them in! At least the Dems are out and we can start to clean up this mess. Need a reorganization of department heads (Police, DPW, ect) and unfortunately taxes raised to get us out of this debt. Some of the Crew should pay for this too with legal ramifications….

Wow! supervisors and ROAD repair employees almost 300 thousand dollars plus. Belmar should look like Disney World. All these salaries are absurd. Before raising taxes we need to clean house with all these high salaries. This is a small town with high nepotism. Our police department looks like a large city staff .Get a grip on the causes of crime and downsize to the beach community we are supposed to be.This is insane!
