This debt is insane. How the hell are we going to pay this without an extreme tax increase. You idiots that believed and voted for Matt. There is no FEMA reimbursement that’s going to fix this!
And that doesn’t even include the $7 million for the pavilions.
*Correction. It includes $3.9 million for 5th Ave pavilion.
I’d like to take a moment to thank Mayor Matthew Doherty for this utterly idiotic display of municipal finance. Good job Matty !
Fiscal irresponsible behavior. Smoke and mirrors cannot hide this debt statement. Is Zuckerberg available to bailout Belmar?
Claire could you please remind us of all the good he has done for the town again.
Are these figures published to be compared with other towns of equal or similar size? Taken into account also the fluctuation in the seasonal population increases.
Manasquan is very similarto Belmar in size and amenities. Should sit down before comparing the two. Year round thriving business districts, Beach bars, legendary entertainment, sumptuous food, inlet, wtc, etc, etc.
Maybe he can ask for donations from his democratic supporters?
Working on getting Manasquan’s info and maybe some other neighboring towns as well.
All properties pay property tax and water bills whether the folks are seasonal or year round but of course badge buyers will be paying the beach utility debt for many years.
BTW, anyone know what was ever done with the Buy a Board money? Has it been put towards the beach debt?

Where is the Lake Como outflow bond of 6.1 million and the 2 million bond for the 10 Ave pavilion. And the 800,000 for the pretend emergency problems at the marina which were only moving and updating services for Bob Cooper and Chef’s cause we are really nice.
The mayor wants to build the 5th Avenue Pavilion first so he can have a photo op and big Democrat party. Safety first and flood prevention do not count.

#5-I have great confidence in the mayor, council, and our CFO where financial matters are concerned. We have the best CFO in the county, if not in the state. When I was councilwoman she was vigilant with her oversight, and advised with wisdom and intelligence…making no wrong turns along the way….what is this “in your face” attitude you project, #5…”Why don’t you tell us Claire how the mayor looks out for residents”.is that a “gotcha?”..really??
Matt is no good for Belmar or the County.
I would really like to know what Claire Deicke is getting out of all of this and what connection she really has with Mad Matt. Nobody can have the facts right in their face and still look the other way and fight for a person that everybody knows is a bad mayor. Something smells fishy.

Is the same CFO that our Mayor has put in a closet and forbids to speak to the press, towns people, other members of the council? I’m sure you would also say that we have or had the best legal counsel in the state as well. How’s that turning out? Is it so far off base to suggest Matt ignores good legal / fiscal advice for is own benefit. We are talking about $47,000,000 in debt , seeing how your all knowing what was the debt before Matt took over? But on the plus side taxes have remained stable, I wonder how?
Does anybody really believe this is the CFO’s budget and not Doherty’s ?!!! Claire, you can not be serious by stating that this budget is the work of anybody but Matt. Just sitting here laughing, thinking about a budget discussion between Nicolay and Brennan… Now that is funny, ha ha !!!

17-Didn’t you know? He’s my nephew, and he pays me a ton of money to support him…we’re very close family..and we love to have fish dinners together as a family… So it certainly is “fishy” … Supporting him has many personal benefits….especially the big pay day!
18 & 19 ..When I was on the council the CFO was an integral part of the team … We spoke regularly.. She answered my questions and was superb at explaining her recommendations for the budget.. This was my experience…
The CFO is forbidden like ALL other employees to speak unless Officer Colleen Connolly is present. She has powers of arrest now. Part of the giveaways to all Matt’s friends.
#9 Without School, Water&Sewer and Beach the debt is $23 Million. How does that compare to other small, non-beach, seasonal or non-seasonal populations?
#15 – I don’t see where anyone mentioned the CFO at all. It’s the debt incurred under this Administration that I believe is in question, not the CFO who is required to submit the Debt Statement on behalf of Belmar.
She has to sign off that we can afford the borrowing

Comparing Belmar to Manasquan would be interesting. It is fairly depressing to drive down Main Street in Belmar compared to Squan or even Spring Lake. Town is a joke compared Asbury and Red bank . Poor leadership
So it’s clear we still pay School and Water & Sewer charges, every year. It is just not carried as long term debt. But we STILL pay it.

Claire although you are the only one who posts on this blog that is in Matt’s clan, you are not in the loop or privileged to the inside deals. You are spoon fed info with limited facts. I feel sorry for you being used but not informed.
Good Morning Claire while you’re checking that out could you please explain the debt status of Belmar. You have voted on budgets before and you have worked closely with Robin Kirk our CFO. I asked our mayor and council at a recent meeting about our debt and they laughed at me,except Brian who respectfully tried to answer my question. I know there are adjusting entries in the debt statement so I pray our debt is not 40 something million dollars. I also believe if the net debt is close to the actual number it may be higher then several towns around us combined. And lastly I believe if the mayor isn’t raising taxes and the debt is climbing steeply and nobody on the council is talking about the debt maybe there is something to be deeply worried about. I am hopeful you can clear this up. Thanks in advance!

I can say one thing to Claire. If the mayor’s success was measured by the bathrooms at Maclearie Park she has planned the grade would be an F. We asked for ADA PERMANENT bathrooms not a trailer.

#60 – You have to understand Mrs Deicke that men are generally smarter than women, and certainly very much more represented in the ranks of genius’. Having said that, men are much more represented on the lowest end of the intellectual scale than women. So, I guess that sort of equalizes the equation.
