(If the mayor likes you.)
The pavilion information session at Connolly Station that took place tonight unexpectedly turned into a “private party” as anyone, including BBP members, who were deemed likely to vote against the $7 million bond were refused entry. There was, apparently, no other criteria. Some Democrats were let in but not others. Some Republicans were let in but not others. People who had absolutely nothing to do with the SID attended, but Jim Bean, a sitting councilman, was refused entry. It reminded me of the Studio 54 “dictatorship at the door”.
In my opinion, the BBP/SID should be disbanded and de-funded immediately. This evening made it clear that it is simply an arm of the political machine that runs this town.
In a normal town this behavior would be considered outrageous. But Belmar is not a normal town and this sort of thing is something I guess we’re all going to have to get used to.

Looks like Boss Hogg now runs the town.
Jim Bean was refused entry? I find that difficult to believe. Ok now I am mad…I gotta talk to a few people. We need to meet with the 5 families again.
What a shame…and a sham. What people need to realize is that the mayor has absolutely no interest in these pavilions. His only goal is to get Epic Construction more money. Why else would he care if this vote went one way or the other ?
Indeed. I am more upset about the actions of the BBP and it’s President for this disturbing situation than with the Mayor’s refusal to let me attend this meeting. Politics I can sometimes understand, but the BBP is (in my opinion) supposed to be non political. I would hope the BBP Board looks into this and takes the necessary action.
Don’t worry Tom I got a meeting with the five families this week.
Boycott Belmar Businesses that are the Mayor’s lackeys. The president of the Belmar Business Partnership is sorely lacking in leadership if he allowed this to happen.
I too was turned away last nite, but realy felt sorry for the many Sr Citizens who came out in a torrential downpour who misinterpretted “Please Attend. All are welcome and encouraged to attend” in the invite from the local Business partnership. I’m curious as to what was the secret facts and info being given to the private party that the public shouldn’t know? Sal owes us all an explanation.
When the Belmar Chamber of Commerce gave a campaign contribution to Jennifer Nicolay, I boycotted the members and told them in an email. businesses like Nicchio’s. Last fall when so many more signed a flyer that went out in support of Magovern & Blackburn, I still am boycotting-giving none of my business to Taylor Hardware, Belmar Bagel and Federico’s ect. Now until the president of SID resigns, Belmar gets none of my business.
I can understand tossing out those who become disruptive, but it is a disgrace to stand at the front door and selectively choose who is and who isn’t allowed entry to an “all encouraged and welcome to attend” meeting of a public entity. Wake up Belmar, this Mayor wants to rule the town for another 4 years?
The truth is out look where we have the
financials of the town discussed and
resolved. Maybe not the first time and
maybe not the last. (“Sunshine Law?”)
The problem is the form of government. It
should have been changed years ago. All of this is why it was changed to begin with back then.
Tulip
should have
