At Least They’re Giving Us Gas

In an opinion letter to the Asbury Park Press, part of his publicity generating campaign against the NJNG rate increase, Mayor Matt Doherty said the following:

The 24 percent increase is made even more offensive when juxtaposed to the Wall Street-type 125 percent salary increases for just five executives at the gas utility over the past two years, bringing their combined total compensation to $13 million.

Is $13 million a lot for the top five executives?  Seems like a lot but I don’t know.  Is it out of line?  NJNG

Actually I added them up and it came to $11,463,510 so I’m not really sure where the $13 million comes from but maybe I’m missing something.  Again I remind you that one of those five executives that Doherty thinks is being paid too much is Kathleen Ellis, wife of former mayor Ken Pringle.  (I think Doherty would have done this even if Ellis weren’t involved, but I’m sure it’s making it more fun for him.)

Let’s compare this with executive compensation over at PSE&G, used by our neighbors to our north and to our west:PSEG

Yeah, PSE&G is a bigger company and all, but look….pay is around double what it is at NJNG.  And that is after the execs at NJNG got their big raises.

So are they being paid too much?  I don’t know.  What do you think?

Here’s some guys, btw, that I think are being paid too much and they don’t give us gas, they give us heartburn!  They are the leaders of some of the mayor’s favorite unions.

Matt’s employment earnings are campaign contributions. I think he sells mortgages or did. I don’t think he is employed now or for the last 3 years.

So the executives at NJNG get equity in their company and the union bosses get equity in Matt.
