There you go. This is the justification behind coneman’s new 82K$ job. Foot bridge tender for public works (read the fine print) The poor guy can’t get by with his $100k plus pension so he needed a job made up for him. I guess he can’t afford the high property taxes, even if he gets a free slip. Oh well. Move to Florida and make us all happy.

There have been a pair of swans nesting there FOREVER – was this lake not meant for wildlife when it was created? We should not disturb that island – how many of us have taken our children to see the nesting swan year after year??
Leave the island for the wildlife !!!
Really, a row boat won’t do? for DPW access.
How awful to grab this island for more recreational uses when you have the rest of the park for such uses! Shame on Belmar – I guess those swans and their cygnets who walked off to Lake Como this spring knew what was coming! Let”s save this swan nesting site! How can we stop this? It has long been a part of Belmar’s history.

Belmar wishes to grow an underutilized area of the borough. Oh my god – like they aren’t approving tons of variances in the borough. If the application had stopped after the educational remarks and never mentioned DPW I probably would have less of a problem with this. What happened to the town I fell in love with 30yrs ago?

When I lived there I wanted a footbridge across the lake somewhere in the middle of the lake because sometimes I felt too lazy to walk the whole way around it.

First comes the footbridge, then a 37 unit, five story apartment building on that island. Too small for that? Not if you are a Friend of Walsifer!

#7- That was hysterical, sad but possibly true. How bout building a hut on the island and rent out paddle boats. Another job for coneman.

Mute Swan is a territorial invasive species … Silver Lake waterfowl is more diverse without the swans

The mute swan is considered an invasive species for two reasons. … In fact, it is a non-native species to the entire Western Hemisphere. Mute swans are native to Europe and eastern Asia and were brought over to North America as pets and ornamental birds in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

They should apply for a grant to remove drug attics and drunks constantly seen sleeping on benches,in front of Dollar General, the Plaza and train station. You don’t see this in Avon, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, Bradley Beach, and Point Pleasant to name a few.

14&15 We are also an invasive species to the Western hemisphere if you are the Leni Lenape. Leave the island alone for the old time pair of swans that have been nesting there for many years and set a good example about how to care for the elderly of any species.

The Leni Lenape and “we” whoever we are, are all from the sub-species Homo sapiens sapiens, men who know that they know. The only invasion was by people who felt they had a right to dominate others who were “other” according to their limited perception. History is full of examples.

What a terrible idea. There is no reason for people to go out to that island. There are plenty of other things to do. It endangers wildlife and will become a mess. Who came up with this horrible idea. I assume someone who was going to make money on the building of the footbridge. Fix the infrastructure in town and clean it up

Nobody fishes that lake more than me. All catch and release. I fish it 4 to 5 times a week. As much as I would love to fish off that Island it is not a good idea. The Swans breed on that Island and then move to Lake Cuomo every year. All over the world there are Swan Islands and it’s safe for them. This is a no brainer and the Island should be left as is. As much as I would love to fish it I simply think it’s a bad idea and would cause problems. The dock itself has young children fishing off it and is loaded with garbage all around it from hooks, cans, lures etc. You can’t fish off the dock without getting caught up on something. For a better lake keep the footbridge off the island. Just my opinion from someone who spends about 20 hours a week fishing it.
