I had a nightmare after last night’s meeting,. I dreamt that Mark Levis was elected to council.
in Belmar, wondering who drives the car that does not have an inspection sticker on it? See it parked all over town
with plate U73 BAF
small gold/beige car, older w/ dent on one side
Gene sure had some “interesting” comments.
I’m digressing from my self-imposed rule of only commenting on this blog when my name appears-just this once…it’s about Pat Corea’s letter in today’s Coast Star-stating outrage over the mayor’s use of the word terrorists. This comes from a person who has in the past booed people at council meetings, yelled from her seat at these same meetings, and got up from her seat to hand-deliver petitions to the borough clerk….never stating before hand that she would do so while I personally wouldn’t use the word terrorist, she should be the last person to represent any group-the rules of decorum aren’t for her…she’s demanding an apology from the mayor-I think she should get up at a meeting and apologize for her several instances of rude behavior.
GET A LIFE. DENIGRATING IS NOT A GOAL TO ASPIRE TO NOR IS THERE ANY EXCUSE TO SPIN OR OBFUSCATE THE MEANING OF TERRORIST
Great letter from Pat Corea in the Coast Star today !
Had a nightmare after Tuesday meeting. I dreamt that Mark Levis got elected to Borough Council. I also loved your letter Patricia. Will the people trying to preserve Maclearie Open Space be called ECO-TERRORISTs. I remember the choice words Matt had for Rainforest Action and Sierra Club when he tried to use IPE wood for the boardwalk.
I liked the ipe
#5-Anonymous-Is you comment for me or Pat? If it’s for me, there was no spin on the word terrorists……if it’s for Pat-I agree-she shouldn’t have deingrated those people she booed and yelled at (from her seat at council meetings)…loved that you used the word obfuscate! Some of my message -#4-got cut off…..should read “yelled from her seat…”also…..”never stating that she would do so….” In any case, you comment seems to totally apply to Pat……Thanks!
YIPEE Patricia.
A woman standing up for herself! Novel to some I’d say! You have had the VOTE for how long in the USA? The year of the woman and you get scolded for initiative, just nonsense. What’s next, no unauthorized participating in Belmar for females, only certain females that is?
#0-I’m so glad you stand up for women! Rudeness applies to both males and females-in this case it’s a woman who thinks rules for public participation don’t apply to her…and yet chooses to criticize someone else’s rudeness….I love when women show initiative….what’s next is two women presently sitting as council members….Hurray for Susan B. Anthony and all the women in history who have fought for women’s rights-my comment has nothing to do with the topic you’re presenting… interesting twist you give the story….I’m sure you’ve heard of the saying, “people in glass houses….” maybe this comment clarifies my statement for you…
I never saw Patricia behave in the way you are saying, never. But even if she had, and she didn’t, the mayor of a town is supposed to have some class and not refer to dissident constituents as terrorists.
#11, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were against giving the vote to black people.
#12-Believe me Dave-I was the target of her boos and screaming out from the audience…on at least three occasions-so I know this is true-how about when she just strolled up to the front of the room and handed the petitions to the council? This si wohat people at meetings DON’T do…..
Tom-I didn’t know that…..
Claire give it up if you don’t want to hold your elected officials to higher standard then shame on you. This guy big claim and Brian for that matter was to unify this town and he or try have failed at evey turn. If Belmar is now a place where we don’t hike our elected offices to higher standard the this town has truly taken a turn for the worst. For it to get to the point where Mrs Wolley has to speak up its a shame . By the way I noticed you to clap after she spoke. Go ahead order your Union mailers and join this joke of a mayor. Again it’s AmTrust issue you just don’t get it the same way this town can’t trust his mayor.
#6. I agree her letter is right on the money. The mayor certainly is not or has ever been a class act. He gets away with his antics for what reason I don’t know. A lot of his behavior runs short of being anything but juvenile and insulting to the butt of whoever has fallen out of favor. I might add that some day it might be the wrong person. I can’t see him apologizing for if he did he wouldn’t mean it.
Claire
I find it hard to believe that you find nothing wrong with this type of behavior. He is an adult who should know better especially when it is on the front page. What does it accomplish
In the long run? Trouble. Unless he thinks he is invincible we all know that isn’t true. Your thoughts please?
Also, Dave-I’m not making a comparison of what Pat did and the mayor’s words-I’m just saying that she should be the last person to criticize someone else ……given her behavior in past and recent years.(at council meetings)…don’t take my word for it about her booing and yelling out at meetings-ask her….don’t say “she didn’t” behave this way without going to the source….if she’s honest she’ll own up to it…
Right on Patricia! As a petitioner, I also am appalled and upset at the Mayors language. Terrorist is a very ugly word and I cannot see how one can compare it with booing from an audience, or walking up to submit a petition that bears their name while their fellow petitioner is being demoralized and intimidated by our mayor. I have never called our mayor a name but he has called me many. I just cannot understand how those around him can condone his behavior by saying nothing. It truly amazes and saddens me
These posts are for a council meeting WHERE 2 hours of comments from upset residents for a hearing that took place.
This is a Democrat strategy. Rather than to deal with it…change the subject. Sorry but after 20 comments
on an unrelated story, someone had the call it for what it is Claire. The hearing started 6:29 pm. And lasted till 8:27 pm. The Mayor left at 7:12 p.m. and everyone is talking about Patricia’s first amendment rights.
Of course you are right Ted. Distract and deflect
for all of you who are upset with me…as previously stated-I’m not saying that the mayor is correct using the word terrorists…I’m saying that Pat shouldn’t be the one to criticize-comments 18, 20 & 21-Katrina-if you were the target of the booing and screaming, you might feel differently-Ted-so it’s Pat’s first amendment right to act inappropriatelybooing, etc. at meetings? I didn’t know that-maybe you’re correct-but still inappropriate and rude-I was extremely offended by Pat’s behavior-as much as you are upset with my thoughts of her behavior-that’s your right, and my right also to “Call it like it is….”again-reread the commentary-I’m NOT defending the mayor’s use of the word terrorists-I’m merely stating my opinion that Pat is in no position to criticze-given her history-
It wasn’t my intention to distract and deflect-only to offer my opinion as to why Pat shouldn’t be the one to criticize-my opinion is open and forthright….no hidden agenda here…
The negative comments against the Mayor and Council are well founded and caused by themselves. If they would have been forthcoming and honest in the running of Belmar. Acting in the best interest of the taxpayers and not their supporters or friends they would not have the lawsuits. It is so obvious they are following Obama and other Democrats way of doing things their way and no negotiation. This is why people are fed up and Trump and Carson have such high marks.
Vote for Dave, doggone it. One by one, vote the puppet-rascals out. No more oligarchy in Belmar.
Claire: HER NAME IS PATRICIA, she signed her letter PATRICIA, her friends and I am lucky to be one call her PATRICIA.
It a parking lot scheme for the ballyhooed Chef’s project. If there was one iota of sincerity the dangerous and hazardous conditions at the park would have attended to long before any so called public notice. Using special police to hand deliver flyers is yet another example of flagrant waste. Jen could have us e d the emergency red alert system as is the incumbent practice in this town during an election cycle. You cannot use mailboxes and we have been known to have west winds in our neighborhoods. No notice, no objections.
Ted-Thanks for the correction-Pat is related to a cousin of mine-my cousin and others of her family members call her Pat-glad she’s your friend-someone stopped by to tell me that her rudeness goes back to when Ken Pringle was mayor-she yelled and screamed at me too, from the audience….I think he told her to sit down…-whether you call her Pat or Patricia…..she’s still the person who has displayed inappropriate behavior in public settings….that’s why I questioned her writing of the letter–by the way, the person who reminded me that her behaviors go back to Pringle’s terms did so without me bringing it up…..didn’t need to-most people remember these things about her… please don’t address me in such a condescending tone…capitalizing PATRICIA.your scolding of me is to no purpose.she’s been Pat ever since I’ve known her..much longer than you.didn’t matter that we have a family connection, although distant-she still booed when I was speaking from the dais , and yelled at me (personally) from the audience..OK TED?
Pay attention, Colleen and Brian were put on the spot when directly asked if they had known that Belmar did not own the property on which the bulkhead was constructed. Both hesitated and stated in weak, lowered voices, “yes”. So were they lying or forced to admit that they possessed the information and did not heretofore share it? What will the mayor say now? Stay tuned for the next episode of As the Truth Turns.
Claire:
Call her rude but she’s no thief. To me taking money from people , be it contributions for particular purpose or taxes for a particular purpose and then hijacking those funds without the consent or knowledge is stealing. In 2013 I donated $100 to Buy -A-Board, two years now, I find out that my contribution was hijacked to pay for a pavilion I don’t support. Earlier this year I found out that my $100.
tourism tax to be used to promote tourism outside of Belmar was bundled and (4,000.) sent to Home-By-_Summer a charity.
Today, I found out that my tourism fee ($100.) went to pay for the Belmar Women’s Club Belmar-Monopoly a fundraiser for your non-profit club. If you or the administration had asked me up front for a charitable contribution, I rarely turn you down. NOW, you can put a lien on me.
Belmar’s Women’s Club
What are you talking about? Don’t make this situation more than it is……is this your way of defending Pat, and detailing your opinion about town management? What does this comparison mean? Who said she was a thief, and what does her not being a thief have to do with anything? ONCE AGAIN for the perhaps the 4th or 5th time……Pat stated in her letter that she was OUTRAGED with the mayor’s use of the word terrorists….ONCE AGAIN I state that I am outraged by Pat’s treatment of me when I sat on the council..but I wasn’t alone..she acted that way towards others that didn’t agree with her as well..yet that’s OK with people who support her.they don’t like my telling of my experience has been with Pat.If you have a problem with the way your monies were applied, I can’t help you…..why would you bring the women’s club into this? I had no knowledge that your tourism fee went to the women’s club-tell someone in authority…be creative in your thinking to figure out how to address your concerns…..I can’t help you…
Patricia is such an intelligent person and concerned citizen of Belmar. Thank you Patricia for all your efforts on behalf of residents. Instead of blabbing nonsense to garner attention Patricia has worked hard to help our town rise from the madness occurring since Doherty’s been at the helm. I appreciate Patricia for her for outstanding work, wonderful personality and respectful character. The mayor’s comment was disgusting and an embarrassment to our town. Any person ignoring or trying to deflect his comment should remain in the gutter with him. Thank you again Patricia for your commitment, integrity and kindhearted soul.
Gosh-#33-I don’t know if we’re referring to the same person……respectful? Committment to what? Being rude? Someone who boos and yells in public venues?…kind-hearted? I’m not trying to garner attention..or deflect the mayor’s comment.as I’ve stated many times.I’m expressing what my experience has been with Pat…her outrage expressed in her letter comes into question when she herself caused disruptions at public meetings..I was outraged at her booing me..I guess it’s OK for her to behave in a certain way-and feels comfortable criticizing others-she gets a pass..I’m glad that Pat seems to be a role model for you…integrity? Shouting from the audience? Booing? We have different definitions of intergity in our heads….your character reference of Pat doesn’t hold water with me…..frankly-I love my house-don’t think I’d like living in the gutter-but I give you credit for your loyalty to Pat-we obviously see different sides of her
Claire, sometimes there are very strong reasons people boo. I booed when a union political plant got up at a council meeting and supported the yes vote last year when he said he was from Brick. Be it appropriate behavior or not sometimes you just can’t hold your emotions when you see this kind of manipulation. The mayor has lost the respect of people through his actions. Respect is everything, if you lose respect from people they will not act respectfully toward you. The mayor has disrespected the people, thus he is disrespected. I for one will continue to act accordingly until he is out, with my dying breath I will say it WE DONT TRUST HIM and Coleen as his right hand either.
Claire has you all spinning off topic.
I might have missed it, where did the mayor have to go? Was this a surprise meeting?
Bill-So why did Pat boo me? I’m not talking about her booing the mayor-why did she yell out to me when I sat on the council? Once I was giving a simple report, and the other time I was stating that there should be oversight by the people who wanted the skatboard park built for the safety of the youngsters using the park-self-control is a trait that we try to establish in children when they’re in grade school…..#36-spinning off topic? Can’t you read?? I was offended by Pat’s treatment of me……her letter in the Coast Star gave me pause-she’s outraged by the mayor’s use of the word terrorists, but can choose to be rude in public sessions-#36-you’re the one spinning off topic…
These comments have become “all about Claire”, Claire of the last word and huge ego which surpasses the borders of her head. One can be offended when one thinks so very highly of oneself and believes that the opinions of others really mean something. I broke my personal code of self control here by commenting, but suggest that Claire starts her own blog in which she can rule supreme.
When a narcissist talks no one listens.
I believe that the residents want the park to remain largely the same with the exception of the bathroom. It was my impression that a permanent one was the preferred choice and seems to make more sense. The remaining areas needs a serious clean up and restoration. It seemed simple to me when listening to the residents’ concerns. Lastly the bulkhead has been ignored as has the park, and need to be addressed immediately in conjunction with phase 1 and 2 whether it’s a full replacement or repair. Also the town knowing that it was county property and not addressing that continues to foster serious concerns about their agenda. This is just increased parking somehow finagled under open space. I know we desperately need parking but put it behind the municipal building.
Re Parking the only feasible locations for a parking deck would be behind the municipal building or the plaza. You are looking at a multi million dollar bond on top of the bonds we have. The only possibility would be a federal grant which is slim to none chance of getting it.
Parking decks are really expensive.
#39 – Clean up and restoration can be done by volunteers and even better it could be done by a Boy Scout in Belmar as an Eagle Scout project. It’s been neglected as a means to an end.
You’re so right about me, #38-I have a huge ego and LOVE being the center of attention-it’s always all about meThat’s why I use my actual name on this comment-I want everyone to know who I am….not like the more humble people who use fake names, #007-narcissist is a perfect word to describe me-the humble person who booed and yelled at me didn’t want any attention-and I guess, thought it was too egotisical to come to the mike and vent her feelings-you’re right, though-my ego is so huge that my terms on council were all about me-never developed any programs for the town, never assisted neighbors with concerns, never brought staff in from the Monmouth County Health Dept for free eye and other health exams. …..never brought in programs when I chaired the ADA committee……never tried to help the disabled, never had any handicapped parking spots installed..never sponsored town walk so that senior members of the community could exercise.never worked with the Council of Churches to help the needy..this is what a person like me behaves-the bigger the ego, the less we care about others-
Maybe I will start my own blog-that would surely substantiate the notion of my narcissistic personality-then I’ll continue to post how great I am!
I am not sure what the council was referring to when they said they would put in paver type blocks and grass would grow in between for the parking area. That sounds like a maintenance nightmare and likely satisfies green acres criterion.
I think those living on River Road have it rough enough and take their lives in their hands entering and leaving their properties. To jeopardize their property values by compromising any view they might have is not right. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable just driving around the curve on Rt 35 thinking how close the sidewalk and homes are to such fast traffic.
#44 Admin that was my point. People are complaining about no parking, there is no fairy dust that can make that go away, this is a tourist town, not a sleepy bedroom community.
The parking decks were brought up by residents at the Maclearie Park gathering 7/30/15. Mayor said it would cost 8 million. No one has estimated the revenue for paid parking there over 5, 10 years to offset the bond. This is just like the dredging of the Shark River Basin. Not sexy and all politicians know it is a priority but they are all to happy to let the next elected rep. have to deal with it. Can kicked down and down the road. Imagine all the expensive infrastructure surrounding a dead river basin. Imagine having to close the town in season due to no parking and safety.
#40. The parking deck is a major part of the Seaport Redevelopment. The parking had to be addressed since the redevelopment area caused or will cause the requirement. The federal government had nothing to do with Belmar’s “build it and they will come” plans. WE built it. They are coming. So much for “sustainable redevelopment by the Sea. So much for
people should ( but don’t ) use public transportation. Can I sell you a bridge? How about swamp land in Florida?
#48 I don’t think It will ever happen the mayor’s estimate is just that the parking fees will never pay for the bond.
Will there be 3 story parking at Klein redevelopment project on top of retail and housing levels. Ideal!
We are going to bond for the damn pavilions I rather bond for parking.
Yes! we have a master plan. Yes, they refuse to implement it. Yes, that is because the mayor and Magovern sit on it.
I got it! How about a parking pavilion?
Claire, lol… You’d have to pay someone to code a blog for you. You don’t have a clue on how to code CSS and PHP. GL on that though, hahah! Maybe you should put just as much of an effort into following the path of your neighbors in voting no on the pavilion and save the tax payers (you care so much about, not) some money.
Not many people would follow you and your blog anyways.
What’s CSS and PHP?
Admin, you run a wordpress blog site and you don’t know what CSS and PHP is? Hmmm…
No, but I do confess that my brother does the programming for me when I want to add enhancements.
#46 Fairy dust or not I would like you to know that this is not a tourist town. This is a town of residents and people who are in business who pay the taxes and bills one way or another. The tourists are our guests whether they act like it or believe it. Please do not insult my intelligence by trying to convince me that the tourists support this town. If that is the case let them build the parking garage they need so badly. They should also consider the Terrorists and The Element they may have to deal with.
#58 I tend to agree with you here.. the Tourists do not support the town if anything they create more work and spend more money i.e more police, more clean up of beaches/streets to name a few.
Admin – I wish there was a feature to “like” comments people make on the blog as I agree with so many.
Looking into it.
