Dems Should Rethink Their Recount

From the Star article:

….Mr. Brennan and the Monmouth County Democrats said they planned to request a recount of the mail-in ballots. The deadline for recount applications is Nov. 22, 15 days after the election, according to the Monmouth County Clerk’s website.

“At this point, I owe it to my supporters to follow the process through. We’re going to ask for a recount, because there is a chance that some votes didn’t get counted,” said Mr. Brennan…

If the County Democrats pay any part of the recount cost for the Brennan campaign that would be an in-kind contribution according to the state compliance manual. It also states that recount costs are campaign expenditures.

There’s no question that it’s coordinated because Brennan is talking about it being coordinated in the quote at the top. Taking a contribution from the County Democratic Committee is treated as a pass through contribution by Belmar’s Conflict of Interest ordinance and is unallowable.

Maybe they should come up with a different plan for the recount.

If there will be a re-count of mail in ballots or hand delivered ballots, who is present at the re-count? There better be a check of people’s pockets and handbags so no “extra” forgotten votes make their way into the room.

Clearly the town is divided. They should allow both candidates to get in based on these results. Ridiculous.

Let the FBI count the ballots.

    Just like Belmar

According to the federal indictment, Chestnut Ridge developers Lamm and Kenneth Nakdimen and their associate, Volvy “Zev” Smilowitz, bribed people from outside the village with money, subsidies and other items of value to entice them to vote in the March 2014 village election. Lamm and Nakdimen, through their real estate company, allegedly paid one recruiter $500 per voter, with payments totaling $31,000. The conspirators allegedly backdated false lease agreements for uninhabited properties they owned in Bloomingburg, picked up mail from uninhabited homes where fraudulent voters were registered, and planted household items like toothbrushes and toothpaste to make unoccupied apartments appear lived in.

Ok so according to Brennan,241 ballots were received and 238 were scanned in. So ??? Maybe the county deemed 3 incomplete or invalid. Duh.
By the way Tom, in this article you mention you had a “staff”. I hope you list this staff on your reports and paid them properly- including mandatory deductions.

Instead of the FBI wouldn’t it be more appropriate to call in the Secret Service for a recount?

What’s the big deal? In cases where elections are this close, the outcomes are always contested by the candidate on the losing side . I’ve been around a long time, and these types of results are always , always contested. It’s not like Brennan is doing something that’s never been done, especially with a one vote differential.

#17. There is no big deal in asking for a re-count. It just sounds fishy that he knows there are 3 votes that were not counted. Did they take a poll of everyone who did mail in ballots and know for sure who sent them, how many were not counted and who those that were not counted belonged to? Seems pretty specific.
