Division of local government services Commissioned study on the public safety aspect of what contract? Was there a meeting of any minds?
Is this a theoretical commissioned study of somewhere’s public safety? Is there a known basis of what unique factors there are in regard to public safety in Belmar and Lake Como (South Belmar) vs Newark and Short Hills?
Simply amazing. At least Wilton has the decency to call a “town meeting” with borough professionals and NJDLGS reps. prepared to blow smoke up every ones cavity.
Perhaps I missed the notice but did I forget to attend Belmar’s presentation on how this agreement, of which I had no input on, will result in even a “bigger” significant cost savings to Belmar and put Belmar on sounder financial footings? Bend over people and sacrifice YOUR needs for your neighbors in South Belmar.
Why do we want their problems when we have enough of our own? What is the benefit to take them on?
There goes the neighborhood. Why the heck would Belmar even want that mess.
The prestigious NORTH END of Belmar has been very quiet this season. Is it the quiet before the storm?
Go to NJLAWMAN,COM there’s a bevy of information out there. We do not have to be short changed or stretched by lack of police coverage during chaos or during the off season when drugs = burglaries are rampant at the shore.
#6- You are correct. Please attend Tues. meeting to see if Matt will answer any questions regarding this secret deal. A deal that had absolutely NO INPUT by the residents of Belmar on THE most important service WE pay for. WE rely on OUR PD daily in assuring OUR safety and well being, services that ultimately have an effect on property values. A political move by Matt and Brian at YOUR expense, not Lake Como’s. To even consider asking our PD to add an additional five party bars (one being the largest in Monmouth County) and a High School of 200 students onto their already heavy caseload is unconscionable. GREED is evil.
#7 – Are there any plans to take on anymore of the Lake Como officers on our force?
#8 No. From what I’ve heard, the rest of the Lake Como PD will be laid off. In my opinion, the Lake Como meeting is a dog and pony show-it is already a done deal, just like anything that has to do with Doherty. This is not a good idea for Belmar or Lake Como. If LC can’t afford a police department they should not exist as a town, but rather be called the Lake Como section of Belmar. Doherty will give Wilton the deal of a lifetime at the expense of the Belmar and LC residents so he can use this in his campaign for Freeholder. He will tell people how he can get towns to share services. Once Lake Como gets rid of their police department, they will never get it back and will be a hostage of Belmar.
Doesn’t the State police service towns without a local PD? Why doesn’t Lake Como go that route?
#9 – Do our police officers have to take periodic physical fitness tests? Some of them look as if they would not be able to defend themselves, much less the public at large.
Don’t you remember the near riot when the SALT and PEPPA concert on the beach had to be cancelled?
Wall police with dogs were called to assist and disperse the unruly crowds, untrained cops arrested civic leaders and then every Sunday thereafter we had patrols of offended visitors marching defiantly on the boardwalk in protest, intimidating many people. It was a disaster and a red flag.
So is the lesson that a resort needs a very sophisticated police force in addition to crowd control and seasoned street detectives with drug and alcohol experience and the resulting outcome of same desperately needed in Belmar? Our nation is confronted with waterway entry as a major homeland security problem with urgent comprehensive rules and regulations.
