Obama? Or Atlas Shrugged?

Saw Atlas Shrugged twice in the past week.  I enjoyed seeing some of the famous scenes acted out but for those who didn’t read the book it might be hard to follow.  Incidently, the book, always a strong seller, has jumped to #4 at Amazon since the movie came out.

In honor of the movie I have put a little quiz together.  Can you guess who the following quotes are from, Barack Obama or an Atlas Shrugged villain?

1) “A strong government hand is needed to assure that wealth is distributed more equitably.”

2) “I think when you spread the wealth around it’s good for everybody.”

3) “This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably.”

4) “We can’t theorize about the future when there’s an immediate national collapse to avoid. We’ve got to save the country’s economy. We’ve got to do something.”

5) “We will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many.”

6) “It’s only a matter of giving them a chance to recover, a helping hand to bridge the gap, a bit of temporary assistance.”

7) “Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility.”

8) “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.”

9) “I think it perfectly unfair that one man should get all the breaks and leave none to others.”

10) “I don’t know when they decided to make a virtue out of selfishness.”

11) “The proper course is always, in my opinion, in the middle.  So it is, I think, the duty of society to snip the extremes”

12) “We’ve got to make sure that people who have more money help the people who have less money. If you have a whole pizza, and your friend had no pizza, would you give him a slice?”

13) “What is more important is to find means by which we can redistribute our economic gains to the benefit of all. This is the government’s obligation.”

14) “We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American people for their own short term gain.”

15) “Society is suffering for lack of business opportunities at the moment, so we’ve got the right to sieze such opportunities as they exist.  Right is whatever is good for society”

16) “It’s not that I want to punish your success, I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance at success too”
