Smear Campaign

Just so you guys know what the gang has been saying about Common Sense for Belmar.

Exhibit A:

Claire Deicke in today’s APP:

As Americans we are entitled to say whatever we want, whenever we want. Our idealistic forefathers created the freedoms of expressions as stated in the First Amendment of our Constitution. This important law is ingrained in the hearts and minds of grateful citizens.

However, there are individuals who push the limits. Such is the case with a local Belmar blog that permits people to use fictitious names to write hateful thoughts about others. Many think this is OK since the First Amendment doesn’t limit such freedoms to just kindly thoughts.

But these individuals would never comment using negative, inappropriate language under their actual names. They know that what they’re saying is wrong, or they would sign correctly when they comment. They spew venom because they think they can’t be held accountable. Someone told me that people use false names because they fear retribution. Maybe they should be fearful that some of these remarks border on libelous.

Our forefathers could never have imagined such abuse of our freedoms.

Claire Deicke

Belmar

Now this is very important.  Here is the link to the letter.  Click on the comments balloon at the top of the letter.  First thing to note is that I put in a comment with the link to this page so readers could see for themselves.  One of their commenters did exactly that and left a comment about this blog.  Read what he said.  Then scroll down to the bottom comment.  I took a screen shot of it but I dare not show it here because tomorrow Matt’s Facebook page might be up there attributing it to me.

The important thing to note is that the APP allowed that comment.  Nothing even close to something like that has ever appeared on these pages.  And that’s the Asbury Park Press!  Yes, the Press makes you comment through Facebook so your name appears but so what?  In what manner does anybody intend to hold this commenter “accountable”?  (BTW, Coast Star and the Patch allow anonymous comments.)

Exhibit B:

From Janet Grosshandler’s letter to the Coast Star:

“First a smear campaign on the narcissist “blog” about a letter I wrote to The Coast Star to get everyone revved up. Then came the anonymous comments slandering me. Then came the “pranky” phone call and unwanted personal letter from group members. Then came the man looking in my windows at 11:15 one night. I won’t name names here but I know. All of this was reported to the police.”

Here is the link to the post about Ms. Grosshandler’s earlier letter.  Yes, I criticized it.  I challenge anyone to find a “smear” in anything I wrote.  Now here are the “anonymous comments slandering me”:

Screen Shot 2014-10-31 at 7.10.34 PM

First of all, only one is anonymous.  The other is from Tom Burke.  And where, exactly, is the “slander”?  You know, Ms. Grosshander, accusing someone of slander when they never slandered is slander.  (Actually when it’s written it’s libel.  Slander is when it is spoken.)

You want to know about libel, Ms. Grosshandler?   “Then came the man looking in my windows at 11:15 one night. I won’t name names here but I know. All of this was reported to the police.”

So you heard a noise, or maybe saw someone so it could only be a reader of this blog?  If anyone has a case for libel I do and I’ve already lodged a complaint with the Coast Star about this.

(For those of you who don’t know, Janet Grosshandler is the treasurer of the Belmar Democratic Committee.  That’s the one that pulled in over $10,000 from the unions recently.)

Next, with Exhibit C is Mark Fitzgerald and Janet Grosshandler on Tom Brennan’s Facebook page.  This is really bad.

Screen Shot 2014-10-31 at 7.51.33 PM

I’m giving all of you fair warning you better get evidence that I have encouraged or been engaged in any of this stuff because you just might be getting a defamation lawsuit.  Especially you, Janet.

Dave-You know very well that you’ve allowed people to post (with commentary) demeaning things about me and others-sorry you missed the point of my letter-it has to do with anonymous bloggers (you never addressed this in your above posting) who really go over board with their remarks-and, by hte way-I have protection under the First Amendment-just as you profess-protecting your people who won’t use their actual names….I use my name-my real name…-I think I struck a nerve with you -or else you wouldn’t have bothered to make an issue of it-you’re cavalier about what you post-and you object to someone responding? I have rights, too……I will respond to any future posting/commenting… that includes my name….you’ve demeaned me on this blog goiing back to 2012…….alllowed people to commnt about me in the most derogatory ways……why are you surprised and unnerved about what I wrote in this letter? I think you act like you’re unaffected by criticism…….because you continue to allow commenters to hide behind ficiticious names so that they can make the nastiest of comments….I don’t think you’d take kindly to people posting (commenting) in nasty ways about your wife-my husband actually appealed to you ……but to no avail..I don’t think the APP would print anything that could be considered libelous-they actually cut out major parts of my letter that you posted…..you’re giving me fair warning-I’m letting you know that members of my family plan to write letters to the media defending my position-freedom of speech and expression for all, right? By the way, they’ll use their actual names-and won’t hide bhind made-up names…….Claire

Haven’t been called that in a long time……..brings back fond memories…..getting many compliments regarding my letter-e-mails, phone calls…..people I don’t know-they agree with me about anonymous blogging-just to let you know……Claire

Maybe we all should use our real names along with “That Element” and make everybody happy. Though I can’t see how that would make lies true.

I was going to make a comment about this “smear campaign” but decided against it as it is way entertaining to read them. The facts are the facts, you can make up your own opinions but you cant make up your own facts, and they don’t seem to be able to defend the indefensible with facts,so they complain about the comments instead.

We read a desperate attempt by Deicke to besmirch Mr. Schneck a gentle sole with perspicacity, acumen and commitment to transparency beyond what she is capable of comprehending. I never respond to her, she is a blind follower of a pseudo leader and incapable of critical thought. I respond only to support Mr. Schneck such a bright fellow. His authored entries are the most uniquely written examples of wit and intelligence containing accurate information backed up with documentation on Belmar’s reality. What more could one ask for. Deicke is afraid of the truth. Mr. Schneck will post all readers’ comments without censure. Although I do believe, he has a policy regarding obscenities. Deicke uses libel as a buzzword for attention and diversion and shows her ignorance. She is a puppy dog follower of a mayor that has lost touch with residents, and I would venture to say, with Belmar’s reality.
Open your eyes over 1045 residents voted against extravagant pavilions and all were labeled by the mayor as a bad element in town against recovery. Doherty is up to his neck in issues of an individual and self-absorbed agenda for personal advancement. I would like to see downtown development that generates substantial revenue for taxpayer relief but the businesses need areas to park and that issue has been ignored. The deals done under a cloaked shutdown redevelopment/rehabilitation program allows absolute power by the mayor to give away our precious commercial tax revenue in return for who knows what.
Yes anonymous is synonymous with life in Belmar but there is hope for residents to come out of the closet. I encourage all voters in Belmar to vote for a trustworthy man, Jim Bean as mayor. He has worked so hard for three years surmounting unbelievable alienation and disrespect from the mayor and other council members to advocate for residents and fiscal responsibility. His running mate Mike Seebeck is an outstanding member of the community that has been involved for many years always promoting transparency and responsible spending. Both Mr. Bean and Mr. Seebeck have conducted a factual campaign without political mudslinging. I have seen Doherty’s flyers that are full of lies. I have also received literature from the Bean-Seebeck campaign that is factually accurate and above the personal attacks. Debt is debt you can’t hide it and Belmar’s is close to $40 million after receiving all FEMA and insurance payments. That’s not a lie those are Doherty’s numbers. We are fast approaching a time when our taxes will go up, and it will be significant. In addition, by design Doherty left everything open and unknown until after the Nov. 4 election. There has been no progress with the pavilions except the opinions of 15 unknown individuals on the Belmar website and the majority say get rid of the responsible bidder ordinance. I know many, many people in this town we are tired of the nasty arrogance and intimidation from the mayor. We want our family community back where neighbors act like neighbors not enemies and the only person capable of accomplishing that connection where we all work together to benefit Belmar is Jim Bean.

Moving Out-Thanks for your very kind words about me. You make Dave sound like a weakling-which he is definitely not… Remember-freedom of expression-that’s what this is all about..never afraid of the truth…. I don’t use the word libel loosely-consulted an attorney about use of this word….he seems to think I use it appropriately…didn’t know it was a buzz word- thought that it has to do with the law…you’re a bit shortsighted there…have received much support for my letter you reference from residents-many more than one coulld imagine-you’re at odds with my thinking, but many are not…….suggestions like……”Is the Mayor lying……” that’s intellngent? Then he had to retract his words…. Hope you get a grip on life and people-seems like you’re a lost soul ……Saint Claire (an anonymous blogger -probably one of your associates- called me St. Claire-think I use it from now on) PS I must compliment you on your use of the English language-very polished!
