Your age is showing and yes, the artist was tying the Mayor to Alfred E. Newman.
    How MAD is that?

    Dear Cartoonist:
I like the way the smile captures the famous “credibility gap.”
    Good work.

Cartoonist, my dad told me about Mad magazine he said that is how he learned to read. He said that every time he seen the mayor on the street it would bring back memories of those days.

I love the characters in the post……have seen them before. I understand the intent of political humor but it somehow gets lost with much of the local audience it seems.

Mr. Burke, I agree that, unless one is really familiar with the fine points of Mad Magazine, the humor would miss the mark.”Credibility gap” should not be too obscure to the uninitiated. Now, using the characters of Rocky and Bullwinkle to portray certain council members, that would not be understood if one does not attend the Mayor and Council meetings. So and so would be a perfect Bullwinkle, but there I go, being bad again. At least we are not talking The Three Stooges…
