Tandem Bike Inn can’t get a date they want in Taylor.
They are booking at least some dates that far in advance and even into 2020.

Whole thing has now officially become one big mess.
It’s like a kid with a new toy. The town is one big mess. If I win the lottery I’m leaving. That’s assuming there is any money left after taxes.
Is there any recourse?
Claire please explain ? Even you would have to say that this doesn’t pass the smell test ? I understand your support of the Mayor and it’s your right to do so but this is not what we were sold back when this was up for a vote. This screams of corruption and is an insult to the people of Belmar.
They will only book into 2019 when? Where are the WRITTEN rules for the use of the Taylor Pavilion? Total mismanagement, by convenience of course.
Same old story. It’s who ya know.
Claire of course is happy. Her women’s club has access to Taylor, as ” promised” by The mayor. Even with little labels on the kitchen cabinets. So what that, as Claire said at the last meeting, all the other groups should be very happy to be relagated to the Methodist Church. It’s a wonderful space.
As far as future bookings for Taylor goes…….. oh well. You either march with the band, or you sit way up in the bleachers. AFTER paying the scalped ticket price of course.
The old carrot or stick. Friends and supporters paid forward= carrots. All others get the stick ( shaft). So what is new.
Please remember that Taylor Pavilion was constructed during a “no-show” Fire Marshall.
STNJ has jurisdiction over Fire Inspections in AC, why not Belmurea?
Be careful with those bonfires on windy days.
Hmmm…one of those pre-booked/reserved dates may open up with due “consideration”? Just speculating here. This set-up really smells fishy to me.
#4–DD-I know of several people who have been granted use of the Pavilion in the near future……including residents who’ve confirmed a family reunion there in October. So I don’t believe we’ve been closed out of the use of our pavilion. I don’t believe that Merri-Makers has total control of booking events there. Thanks for your polite message.
#6 Katrina-I love having/using my clout! The Belmar Woman’s Club has been granted use of the town facilities by Belmar officials over many decades. Two mayors before Mayor Pringle allowed the club use of what is presently The Waterview-formerly Belmar Borough Hall. Of course, Mayor Pringle continued to allow us to hold our various activities at the pavilion. . Mayor Doherty has followed suit. Has the club been grandfather in? (No, you probably won’t buy that.) I could list the myriad of causes the club supports, but you probably know these already.
Also, I’ve used my clout ( so you say) to nail down another engagement for another organization. Belmar Cares, our local breast cancer group, will have an event called Mind and Body Balance on Sept. 13th….you guessed it.. at Taylor Pavilion! The event is designed for women of all ages …it’s at 2pm. Perhaps you’d like to attend . Or, maybe join the Belmar Woman’s Club. On another note….glad you mentioned the kitchen cabinets at the pavilion. Other groups/organizations have cabinets designated to them as well.
With regard to the Methodist Church….it’s a perfect place for senior gatherings. It’s not a second-rate place as you infer. Have you been inside? There is a huge meeting room, an adjoining kitchen which is ideal, and two gigantic-screened televisions in the room where services were once held. Oh, forgot to mention-there is a set of kitchen cabinets at the pavilion labeled Seniors-so apparently events for seniors will be held in the pavilion as well.
Please say Hi to your wonderful husband Gene. He and I sat next to each other at a general election…..we were challenging for our respective political parties.Gene immediately engaged me in conversation. He told me that he’d just retired from teaching, and he and I talked throughout the morning about our chosen professions.
One last remark-I’ll use my clout whenever I need to do so-for the good of my neighbors and friends of my beloved community.
#12 Not total control just 99.9%
Total control of booking? Of course not. But monopolizing? Looks like the bid is in for control of desirable dates. Sorry, it still smells. The people were duped, plain and simple. The evidence is here that things smell in Belmar, and I don’t mean just garbage at curbside or wherever. And all this reference to a class distinction is rather un-American, although that, deep down, most people are aware of differences between groups of people, the timid not willing to admit it nonetheless. And the overlord on Inlet Terrace knows that and plays that note too many times. Who wants an obvious elitist in charge? Talking down the nose to the masses will not play well down the line in his political future. A hog at the trough, is just that, a hog dressed up in yuppie clothing.
Claire you really are missing the big picture. The fact that a local resident was told no dates available then were lied to about how far they can book dates out is just wrong. But like I said it’s your right to have faith that Matt is doing the right thing by the town my only concern is that it is blind faith. You see it’s not about the dates the women club has or the Boy Scouts etc. it’s about being honest and having a level playing field for everyone.
#13 YEA YEA YEA Pass the aspirins please
The operative word in this entire thread is “GRANTED”.
By whom, what when and where was the “Grant” of public property conveyed to a private entity?
Who is the Grantor and by whose authority was the Grantor invested?
Shameful.
Much more transparency, and limits on commercial bookings are needed. The Taylor Pavilion is a valuable town resource that should be available to all residents. No one should be able to monopolize this town asset.
Stop the BS
#16 … Unfortunately nothing is on the level in borough hall.
# 16 DD -Not missing the big picture. I think the resident will be accomdodated…as all others who’ve requested use of the pavilion are being accommodated. A compromise will be achieved. Did you not read my comment that other residents have successfully booked the pavilion for coming months ? I know the person doing the bookings …don’t think she’d lie . Perhaps an error on her part? An oversight? Oh ye of little faith. I worked closely with borough staff during my tenure as councilwoman. I got to know borough reps well. Why are you not dwelling on those residents who will be holding events at the pavilion? Again, thanks for the respectful tone of your commentary.
#18 …. Agree …. and note that the Borough has already violated Belmar Chapter IV Ordinance…
“2. The use of the Pavilion is only permitted for family-oriented events and is specifically not permitted for any Sweet Sixteen party, high school graduation party, high school, college or similar reunion-type parties, bachelor or bachelorette parties or similar events…”
Discrimination was obviously rampant in the construction of Belmar Chapter IV Ordinance…. Competition for seasonal dates appears to be all but eliminated by Hissoner’s stacked Ordinance in favor of a business much like the present tenant at the 5th Avenue Pavilion.
#22 … Ooops! Another change to an ordinance is on the horizon.
The women’s club does not seem like a family oriented event, as it, by name, eliminates the men and children. They got a special dispensation, I guess. The possible mass last Sunday would have qualified. Breaking a rule for one group leaves the door open for more infractions.
#25-You are totally confused. The women’s club is an organization , not an event. The local club falls under the umbrella of state and national federations. It is a National organization . Yes, men and children aren’t included, but if you know of man or child who wishes to join a NATIONAL
Woman’s organization , please let me know …with my clout and special privileges card I’ll to see what I can do…, and yes… I’ll arrange a special dispensation for you as well!
#26 Not confused at all; I can read. Events allowed, but exclusionary meetings? Nevertheless, I acknowledge that some good works are done. I arrange my own dispensations, but thanks.
No men or children takers for the privilege of joining? The Belmar Woman’s Club was founded in 1915. Except for the very early years, club events have been held at borough venues . Would you like to change history? Is there a movement afoot to disband women’s organizations by you? As well as association strictly for men ? How about Boy an Girl Scouts? Exclusionary, right?? Maybe their meeting places should be shut down as well.
Do my remarks in 28 sound ridiculous ? Meant to be… But no more ridiculous than yours…although yours are meant to be serious. Exclusionary ?? Get real..
It is my opinion that exclusionary groups should not meet in public buildings.
Actually I believe men can join the Womens Club if they wanted to.
You’re being led into the woods again by individuals obfuscating the real issue. Hissoner granted “an organization” special privileges at public property, a special class of humans.
Using ones “clout” is at issue and it is abhorrent.
Could be Dave…I’ll check the by-laws!
I disagree with almost everything Claire has to say but everyone must agree that at least she gets on this blog and says it. She is sarcastic but respectful. When she gets called out she answers up. I prefer to hear both sides of a story before I pass judgement on an issue, For that I respect her and appreciate her being here.
Lively discourse is what we all want and do not get at the Belmar Council level so Dave has provided a forum for discovery, discussion and dissent in a civilized, non biased manner. Thank you all the documented and researched information you provide Dave.
#34-Love You!
#32-“Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing.” Mark Twain . My present comments are written in jest. The word clout was used jokingly…. And I’ll admit sarcastically. Hey…but great job using big words! Lighten up, #32, and take Mark Twain’s words to heart.
OK, I can conclude that a meeting is a loosely defined event, and even though the meeting may not meet the criteria of being “family oriented”, such a meeting is permitted to meet or convene at the Taylor Pavilion by a special favor by a powerful person. Why draft carefully worded ordinances if their terms can be overridden? This reminds me of spot zoning to make exceptions for special persons or groups.
On another note, I wonder what would happen if some group who holds family oriented events, that is, allows men, women and children to participate, a controversial one like the politically slanted groups in the media now, wants to hold an event at the pavilion and were denied because they are not politically correct by certain standards. That would be very interesting.
Hey Claire. Your are correct!! My husband Eugene IS absolutely wonderful!!!
I appreciate the work the Women’s Club does, but it seems to only allow retired, unemployed, or stay at home women. They meet on Fridays mornings. Unfair to working women.
38-Katrina-Life’s perfect when the husband is perfect. Hope my explanation of the Taylor Pavilion kitchen cabinets works for you and anyone else who walks with the kitchen cabinet police …since you brought the subject up …PS my husband’s pretty great too. We’re two lucky gals!
Creepy
Fickle finger of fate is coming soon to Belmar.
#39 I take offense at your statement that only retired unemployed and stay at home women belong to the Women’s
Club. Not true unless you know what you are talking about you should stay out of it. If you want to know what is going on make an appointment and ask.
They are basically a fund raising group
that do their best to help people. Kids going off to college are given scholar-
ships and this does include boys. Some
Of the ladies work and do not make every meeting but they all know what is going on in their club. If I recall
correctly the cabinets in the Taylor
Pavillion have the Clubs name on them
Because they donated the kitchen and that was a while back. So tread lightly
If you do not know where you are going.
#43. I didn’t realize the Taylor kitchen was donated by the women’s club. Here I thought that the $7M included kitchen cabinets.
44. You are correct
Didn’t Mr. Vallario prove a true pre-construction analysis of the 5th Avenue Pavilion property back when the Petitions were being justified against the outrageous costs of Matt’s madness$?
#2 The kitchen I am referring to was
the original one that went with the
building with Sandy not the new one in
this building.
I did not remember to dot my i’s.
