Feb 16 Hearing On Police Takeover

Unfortunately Lake Como has their Borough Council meetings the same night as Belmar but they don’t start until 7:30 so I only missed about the first 20 or 25 minutes.  Then the camera started screwing up and giving me an error message so I had to turn it off a couple of times.

Anyway, this is what I got.  The fellow explaining the charts is Rick Richardella from the state Division of Local Government Services.

As expected the presentation from NJDCA was TOTAL BS. He conveniently used incomplete and inadequate data and antiquated standards and methods (no longer used) to estimate the number of Officers needed to safely and efficiently patrol the streets of Belmar and Lake Como. Insufficient data given to him by the powers to be in Belmar to lead the Lake Como residents into believing dire straits consequences. Shameful but expected. A waste of time.

The following thought I have – as a friend pointed pout- Lake Como Ordinances will have to change to align with Belmar – there can’t be two sets of rules for both towns.

The officers of Lake Como if left go will have trouble finding new jobs- where is the loyalty to those that have served all these years and may find themselves unemployed. They have families too!

After the 5 year contract is up who is to say Belmar will not up the price and the town is forced to pay more -then taxes would HAVE to up in order for the town to be policed.

If the Police go then so should the DPW – just sayin…..

No one can say the crime rate will not go up or down -that is an unknown.

Just shaking my head and hoping for the best resolution. Once the police department is gone it will be very hard to replace it years down the road.

The current progressive form is if “we don’t like it we can change it next year”. Easy Peasy so they say, oops my bad. Another Seafood Festival summer long nightmare in the making. Next they will replace the cops with meter maids and men or lower the bar and hire 14 year old police explorers to do the summer jobs.
