Jumping The Gun

Not that the uh……”streamlined” conflict of interest law, 2016-01, was ever legally in effect in Belmar, but it appears the mayor accepted $8200 from the Laborers PAC 5 DAYS BEFORE 2016-01 even had its first reading and introduction.

Hummmm. So Epic ( not the lowest bidder ) gets pavilion job. Epic uses all Labor Union labor. Matt get 82000 from Labor pac (against Belmars pay to play laws)AND Matt bragged about using all Union labor at the pile driving ceremony ). THEN try’s to change existing pay to play laws to suit himself. This guy is shameless and our council is totally inept.

So what is the recourse / action? Does he just say oops and give the money back? Or is there a penalty to all this?

I guess he either needs to return the money or be disqualified to vote on development issues.

BUT, who is the enforcer? The local political machine is self-serving, not so interested in what is legal.

I am no prophet, but this guy will be the agent of his own downfall, eventually.

I chuckled. Not good for the blog though. I already get attacked at almost every Council meeting and comments sent in by readers are often dishonestly attributed to me.

I am sure Dave edits or omits some comments appropriately, as things have a way of getting distorted around here.

When you live in a town that doesn’t allow public dissent without ridicule, how else are the frustrated public supposed to vent. We are lucky to have this blog. What is shared here is vital to our free speech and freedom of information. The depth of coverage may not make the administration happy but maybe they should take into consideration the content of the blog posts , not the occasional rude or distasteful comment. The person who is brave enough to stand in front of the mayor and council that does not conform to the ” everything is wonderful, positive,” routine, has a right to be there without being reprimanded and belittled. Almost every council meeting starts with a tirade from Matt Dorehty about this blogs comment section, ( never about the actual posts and content of the post themselves). I say thank you to Common Sense for Belmar admin for being a champion of free speech and sharing information that we otherwise would never know. I believe that is what living in a democratic society should be all about. Our mayor has open access to public media, television, radio. The average person does not.
